Ha, had one of "those calls" last night. Some lady from Chicago. I'm guessing she googled and just started calling phone numbers. Told me her friend is getting married, a week from tomorrow and she wanted to inquire about my DJ services.
For some reason, I don't know why, I blurted out "Sounds like somebody cancelled on you." She said, "No, it's a rushed up deal and we wanted to surprise the bride for her reception." I have to admit, it surprised me a bit that they'd be trying to get married BEFORE having the baby (tongue in cheek). Seems most knocked up chicks want to do the wedding afterwards so "I won't look fat in my pictures." I told her our basic package starts at $700 and goes up to $1500.
She then lights into me "Wow, that's expensive. I only paid $350 for a DJ for my wedding in Chicago!" I guess she was waiting for me to flinch and offer her a deal but, sorry chicka, no dice. I almost shot back a zinger but refrained and stayed silent until she hemmed and hawed and finally said "Well, thanks anyway." FWIW, I'm personally working that day already so it would've been sub-contracted and frankly, I pay my guys more than $350. That call reminds me of how good a move it was to post my prices on the website. It filters out 99% of those crap, tire-kicking calls. I'd forgotten how much I hate being berated for my "outrageous prices".
