No just some thoughts i have which what i learned from a 12 step program i'm a member was to keep the focus on me. Others aren't my problem. My problem is me. Now he mentioned these DJ's as being his competition. They certainly wouldn't be mine. I know i'm much better then those guys and i can prove it. First i wouldn't dare use a Passport to do a wedding with. I would only use that for a PA system or a ceremony system as you don't need much to do a ceremony. That just gave me a thought of getting one of those to use for ceremonies. At a ceremony you're not looking to blast people out of their seats.
One day if they stay in this business long enough i just hope they will make the improvements they need to make to really be considered really good entertainment that people will be looking to book to do their event.
It's also know3ing how to use it. You can have the best of the best and if you don't know how to use it or read a crowd all that won't matter.

I am looking to get educated here as I too am a DJ trying to do up-lighting. What type of LED fixture is this being used and what do you recommend?
As with all lighting - the proof is in the OPTICS not the lamps. When you test an LED fixture look for convergence of the RGB or RGBAW elements which is what creates the true color mix you are seeking. If pink is what you want - then pink is what you should see on the set piece or architecture being illuminated, not some kaleidoscope of green, red, and blue, with minor hints of several different pink hues.
Most DJ class LED fixtures don't converge because they have no optical components, or they converge at distances over 4-6 feet which makes them undesirable for many up-lighting applications. They are designed for color splashing a dance floor - not the color mixing that quality up-lighting requires.

The optics are non-existent - instead of a color mix you have a green center with red border and a blue perimeter. Cheap ligting fixtures produce cheap results no matter who you are - which is very different than audio where a great DJ can still sound good even on cheap gear.
This is why "diversifying" generally doesn't work for a DJ - most simply don't have the capacity or expertise to do other disciplines properly and so they become both the discount alternative and the purveyors of passe' trends long after the novelty has worn off. By the time DJs get hold of a trend it's commercially effective life is generally over.
Hey Bob -Post some of your set ups so we can all know what to aspire to.....I'd love to see examples of what YOU do for uplighting...

I would think the use would be covered in the fair use doctrine ..

The use is personal, so it doesn't qualify. Criticism, comment, or teaching, applies within the bounds of a qualified public or educational institution. He can post a link to the images but, not display them without permission. These images have been uploaded to this site and hence, have been republished without permission.
I don't want to be chasing these all over the internet. I've had the previous nuisance of forum DJs lifting my images and I'm not very kind about it. If you want to show up and take your own pictures at one of my events knock yourself out - but, I took this photo and I get to determine where it gets published.
Civility, please! This is a private discussion site, not an educational site, and photos were removed at the owners request. I've had my pics stolen and found all across the US and Canada...I understand where he's coming from on that angle. (by the way, you really should watermark your pics...and also, nice uplight pic!)
No, the use was criticism and comment, and based on the law, that does not need to be in an educational or public institution. Same application to satire, parody and the like. He used your 2 images to comment on them pertinent to your previous lighting comments.
While Val removed it, and it is a moderators prerogative, in it's use, it was limited and reasonable and therefore justified. You do not need to approve use in that context.
