Check this out... Good deal or not??

Here's how it works:

Choose a subscription level and setup an account to allow you anytime access to our entire music library.

Purchase a duplicate hard drive, which will be loaded with the same starting library for back up purposes. (Optional)

Confirm your professional status by faxing a signed agreement and business card.

When you have confirmed your professional status, we will ship you a portable hard drive(s) containing your opening library, and a USB access key.

When you receive your hard drive, plug it and your USB access key into your computer.

To add additional songs from our 100,000+ library, login to your account to search and download any MP3 or MP4 music videos. You can login at any place at any time to satisfy any song request.

Use the installer software included on your HD portable hard drive to install a protected version of your player. This installation process takes about five minutes. Continue to play any existing or newly-added music files, including the HD files we provide with your subscription.

Enjoy the easiest and most economical professional digital music subscription service!

HD VIP Membership:

HD service is only available to professional DJs. Your membership fee covers your account setup, external hard drive and security key.
One time membership fee: $249.95

If its all legal, then I think its a great tool. Verification of the would be DJs status should be the determining factor.

Be very careful...

The "protected" versions of software, have not been authorized by the manufacturers. You can probably expect some lawsuits to be filed regarding this... ;)

I'm well aware of this thing, and it's in the hands of my attorneys...

I would question if the music is free to you, or is there a fee per song?

"Your membership fee covers your account setup, external hard drive and security key."
It says nothing about the music being included in the $249 fee.

The way I read that to mean they were providing their own proprietary player software, are you insinuating that they are in fact providing modified versions of players such as Rockit or even VDJ?

Yes...

Look at it this way. To get Promotional Cds/Media such as Promo Only, ERG, Prime Cuts etc you have to acknowledge that you are a Professional DJ. Getting the music on a CD (With their current licenses for such distribution) is no different from getting it on a Hard drive ready to go. The extra price may be introductory to encompass past issues of the released music/cds. All they are doing is putting modern technology in your hands and making life easier so you don't have to rip the MP3s from the discs.
Now with that being said, if you are compelled to use their dedicated software to play the songs then that can be a major turn off. However to some who just push play (Yep, there are some on here who use Winamp, Windows Media Player and the likes...) it would not matter much. Lets wait for more details before judging. This is my guess but it is not my place to say what ERG, Promo Only, Prime cuts or any others can or cannot do. It all comes down to what they have permission to do.

Well then the answers I get should be rather interesting then. Thanks for the heads up.

Rob, I can't go into details, as this is an ongoing thing -- but yes, it's a heads up that there may be issues... ;)

Actually I ment the answers to the questions I asked my ERG contact

The wording in the op was a bit cryptic and lacks a lot of detail IMHO. Im curious as to how it works, period.

As far as I can tell with the little information on hand that is currently confirmable it sounds legit if the "Protected Player" is in fact their own and not an unauthorized modified version of any other manus player including yours.

The FAQ Sheet

Are there any limitations on where and when I can download?

No. Once you have set up a subscription to our program, you will be able to download from any location with internet access.
Do I have to purchase a starting library or can I just subscribe to new downloads?

Yes, the library is optional.
How does your download service compare to my current ERG CD subscription?

You will have access to a much wider range of music than is on our CD’s! New songs are constantly being added to our library so you will be able to access them sooner, plus you will have access to remixes and alternate mixes of popular songs not on our CD’s. Don’t forget, your monthly downloads are not limited to new material, if a client requests an older song that you don’t have you will most likely be able to find it in our library. If you have internet access you can even download it on the fly at an event!
Are your music files encrypted?

Yes, our music files are encrypted. All you need to play them is an encryption key and protected version of your DJ software which we provide. You can play our files or download our files to any device when you have the key plugged in and the protected player available, so no problems with back up or switching between systems.
Can I copy my music to multiple hard drives or computers?

Yes, you can copy our files to as many drives as you like; in fact we recommend it and can provide you with additional portable drives specifically for back up.
Can I store and use my own music together with the HD songs?

Yes, there are no problems with compatibility, HD songs and regular files can be stored and played together.
How can I stay current and make sure I get the music I need?

We will let you know the top songs each week in each music genre so that you are always prepared. Our website makes it easy to see what’s new and what’s charting, you can even download songs based on what’s on ERG Nu Traxx Series CD’s.
Is it legal for a DJ to use your music?

All HD files are fully licensed through the record labels for use by professional DJ's and other commercial users, this is one of the best legal ways for DJs to get music.
Do you support MAC?

We don't support the Macintosh operating system at this time.
What happens if I accidentally delete my songs?

We keep a record of which songs you have downloaded, and you will be able to download them again for free. If you have lost your whole library and don’t have time to download it, we can recreate it and send it to you for a small fee.
Can I use any DJ Player software with HD songs?

We support most WIN 32 bit software, running on Windows 32 OS, including popular DJ software such as PC DJ, Serato, Virtual DJ, MixMeister etc. If you are using less popular software we may not have a protected version available immediately but we can usually provide it within one business day.
If I already have an ERG Annual CD subscription, can I cancel it and apply any credit left to the HD-DJ progam?

Yes, you can either continue with you CD subscription as well as an HD subscription or switch a credit balance over and apply it to the membership fee or initial library.

I for one - legal issues of embedded/cracked players or software aside - am not going to put the very lifeblood of my business at the mercy of a single company, their uptime, their ability/willingness ("terms and conditions of this agreement are subject to change at any time without prior notice," etc. etc.) at any given time to keep me updated, keep my hardware in sync, etc. Where do you go when you have issues with their "protected" software versions? The actual developers/companies aren't going to support their cracked copy... do they have online forums? 24hr support? Will they keep "protected versions" up to date with regular updates from manufacturers, etc? My guess is not.

No way, no thanks, no how.

Ask me nicely and I'll tell you where you can put your DRM and your proprietary players. :tritongue::tricool:

I am irked by ERG by this. Over the past 20 years, I have spent more on my music and video library than a lot of people spend on their house. I don't like some "kid" who passes qualifying as a "pro DJ" getting to have access to a full back log library. That just isn't fair for the "newbie" to pay $249 to have a complete opening library on hard drive. I also see the potential for multiops taking advantage and making 35 hard drives at $249 each, having more than a million dollars worth of legitimately obtained music (35 complete music library copies). "IF" ERG wanted to run this program by allowing "new" music to be downloaded, that would be different, but for them to "give away" an entire music library on hard drive for $249? As far as I'm concerned, that's just as bad as the karaoke pirates, Only ERG is getting "permission" to give the huge libraries away on hard drive (for the nominal fee of $249). Oh man, my blood pressure is high now!
