I don't want this to be a VDJ vs Serato debate but, I have been having problems with VDJ deck A freezing when connected to my HD2500.... I believe it's a communication problem between the two because it's intermitent... but, it's happened enough (durring special dances) that it's made me rethink my setup..... despite how much money I've soaked into a good VDJ setup.

I've been playing with Itch and Scratch but, because I don't have a controller I really can't do much.... I am however intrigued by how quickly I can search my library... Also, the autoplay doesn't seem to work well... unless that's because I haven't completely scanned my library yet, dunno but it certainly doesn't automix well which is one thing I really liked about VDJ especially durring cocktails and diner or when I need a piss break...

Those that have used VDJ and are now using Sereto what are your thoughts Pros and Cons about your switch?

Have you changed the cable to the 2500? Where the files playing when you loaded a song to the other deck that hadn't been scanned? I know it's not what you asked but I'm trying to figure out what may be wrong with VDJ.

EDIT: What are your power settings for the USB ports in the computer? If they shut down over X amount of time you need to change the setting for all out performance no turning them off.

I know it's not what you asked but I'm trying to figure out what may be wrong with VDJ. Nope, no cable chages and no music playing prior to a song being loaded and all songs have all been scanned... I press play either from the controller or by mouse click and the play button lights up but nothing happens... I unload the track and reload... nothing... load it over on the other deck and it's fine... then load a new song on the problem deck... and it's fine again... no rhyme or reason.... in fact I have my Numark Total Control hooked and I've been running through the exact same song set where I had the problem... got to the song in question and it played just fine...

I really am leaning towards it being the controller and not the software.... but, the price on the Denon HC5000 is so good I'm tempted to say the least.... I just don't like the fact that an Automix feature is not present and as far as I can tell Itch is fairly CPU intensive based on the specs I'm reading and what I'm seeing while scaning my library into it's database....

Up the upside it searches the library faster and has a better browse feature setup... plus the wave forms are pretty...

There are soooo many things I like about VDJ from the many compatible controllers that are available to the functionality of VDJ itself.... it's automix fuction is the best I've heard... outside of OtsAV... it plays my karaoke and video's.... it doesn't use a whole bunch of CPU except when running video of course...

Maybe I should just save my money and go for the MC-6000 and be done with it... but, I always like to investigate other options before soaking nearly 7 bills into another product.

Whatever route I go... the HD2500 would end up in a backup rig for ceremony use possibly as well... so it's not going to be sold or go to waste in my closet... like my DN-X050 currently is...

ITCH player with Automix function? The Pioneer DDJ-S1 is a an ITCH controller with SYNC buttons.
Cons: Only two channels. No booth output. RCA output. Not rack-mountable-- will need special flight case. All for a street price of over $1000.

The Denon DN-MC6000 is a solid 19" rack-mountable VDJ native controller (no need for soundcard-- just plug in USB!) that is also an independent mixer. Solid steel frame construction, great value too. Street price around $800.
Cons: Smaller buttons.

The Denon DN-HC5000 is the ITCH rack-mountable controller that will be phased out. Something new is on the horizon. You could get this controller for rock-bottom prices.
Cons: Only works with ITCH, no sync buttons, being phased out.

Itch is a great program so is VDJ but they are two different animals. I have used both, the great thing about itch is its tight intergration of software and controller, The great thing about VDJ is choice. VDJ is a better fit for if you do multiple file types including karaoke video and loseless file types.

Rob, check your PM.

There is sync on the HC-5000. I like this controller so much I bought 3 of them. No issues whatsoever here. I can run ITCH and Serato Scratch Live simultaneously. There was a 10% off coupon over the weekend. Total cost for HC-5000 was $243. A complete no-brainer.

Best,

Paul

The other controllers for itch are a lot better for sure but the HC5000 is very functional especially for weddings and things where a whole ton of Mixing isn't required. They're also cheap and a good buy
