Spoke with the sale rep. earlier today. He says they'll sell these units for $2k each or rent them for $125/each. They'll run for 3 hours and have to be programmed (in batches of 7-about 5 minutes per download) after the battery has been inserted. In other words, right before the reception starts. You'd use a laptop to download/program the units.

To date, he said they've used them at high-end sporting events. I'm wondering if this would be enough "wow" factor to warrant a $175/$200 per-fixture cost for a bride. What do you think?
 
is that the groom running to or away from the alter? Wow not sure how exciting that would be or distracting at any event.
 
See..didn't I tell you all that DJs will soon be offering things that is other vendor's domains.. such as florists (I thought that they were responsible for center pieces.) Whats next? A wedding dress with wireless lights?:sqlaugh:

Oh man, I went over to weddingwire and posted these, thinking I was being a nice guy and sharing ideas. Good Lord, if you think DJs are bad, you ought to have seen the sniping going on when a "stinkin DJ" mentioned an idea for a centerpiece. I think I now know where the term "bitches from hell" was coined. :sqeek:

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Get some pics from the manufacturer, offer them as an add-on, and if they don't sell, no loss. It was Marcello, at a conference last year, who really got me to thinking about offering the real non-standard items.

If not there might be medication available.....ask the Doc in Mexico.....he may have a pint of leftover formaldehyde.

don't really see the problem here.
from Rick's perspective, it's not infringing on someone elses territory...
it's more about becoming more of a one-stop-shop for a client!
if you expect DJ's to only supply MUSIC, and nothing more....
what about MC duties, event planning, props and novelties, dance lighting and uplighting, etc.?
do you consider those to be in someone else's domain as well?

as the client, wouldn't you like to make it easier on yourself?

and by the way, I do a lot of weddings where the venue or the bride are responsible for making or providing centerpieces.
should we be mad at THEM for doing someone else's job?

and for the record, I personally wouldn't want the responsibility of doing the extra duties...even if I could make more money.
I personally like to concentrate on the task at hand.
also for the record, I think those centerpieces would NOT work at a wedding.

I will pull no punches with my answers. This is just my opinion. This is what works for me.
I get the same or more money just supplying music with my equipment or using the Club's (Client) as some other DJs who are supplying music plus lighting etc.
MCing, VDJing and Karaoke are a natural spring off of a DJ. Those I have no problem doing.
Lighting is someone else's domain. I can offer it but through someone else (Usually a buddy) He gets full price and so do I and the added bonus of being there as help and back up for each other.
Centerpieces, props etc are best left to the Party/Wedding Co-ordinators. If they don't have one then I'll be more than Happy to subcontract that out for the client.
I don't want to be in the middle of a song and a packed dance floor and have lights malfunctioning on me.

Just as we don't like Wedding Sites, Advisers and Party Coordinators suggesting the use of Ipods to Clients, we should practice the Golden Rule and not infringe on someone else's territory.
I am sure glad some of you chaps don't have to deal with Union Laborers. They would wipe the floor with some DJ azzes.
Again this is just me..I have the right to scoff at anyone.

PS. Maybe the underlying thing here is that I won't have so much of a problem with those who charge full price, separately, for each service rendered, as much as I have with those who offer these other services just to get the GIG and be in the limelight as a "DJ".

That is all DJ Related. I start the night then they take over by 10.00 - 10.30pm Besides which, part of my equipment now resides at the club so I don't have to lug it in and out. (The four bass Scoops)
 
Maybe if they represented something to do with a wedding or love

it might have a better chance

that would only be used at say a track meet trophy night
