I think they're a bit hokey to use at a gig...

At home, they could be cool -- but at a gig, it would look like you just plugged your Limewire HD in, that you borrowed from the kid down the street... :sqerr: :sqlaugh:

While you could eliminate your external enclosures with one of these, keep in mind that the enclosures serve a very good purpose: physical protection of your precious drive (and data). Plugging a bare drive into one of these docks over and over is bound to wear down the connections on the hard drive over time, and once you break a pin on the drive, you're pretty much screwed. Better to stick with what works: an external enclosure with a good ol' USB connection.
 
Not a good idea for a gig. Imagine some one brings you a refreshing drink and it spills into the space around the hard drive.
 
the laptop hard drives are getting BIGGER and better than the 3.5" standard hard drives

I would be buying more laptop 2.5" hard drives than a 3.5" ones...........
