Drive Dock

I did't look to see if there were any threads on this. If there are, sorry.

Has anybody tried using a drive dock to DJ with? Here is one of them.

Right now I carry three drives in enclosures plus backups. I was thinking that if I got three of these I could eliminate the enclosures completely.

I think they're a bit hokey to use at a gig...

At home, they could be cool -- but at a gig, it would look like you just plugged your Limewire HD in, that you borrowed from the kid down the street... :sqerr:

Well, of course, they would be hidden from the casual observer. I'm just wondering if anybody has used them and how it worked out.

I'll be picking up one of these shortly to wipe my now dead laptop's HD and use it for 3rd level backup storage. I wouldn't feel comfortable lugging hard drives around without some sort of hard case protecting them.

While you could eliminate your external enclosures with one of these, keep in mind that the enclosures serve a very good purpose: physical protection of your precious drive (and data). Plugging a bare drive into one of these docks over and over is bound to wear down the connections on the hard drive over time, and once you break a pin on the drive, you're pretty much screwed. Better to stick with what works: an external enclosure with a good ol' USB connection.

Not a good idea for a gig. Imagine some one brings you a refreshing drink and it spills into the space around the hard drive.

the laptop hard drives are getting BIGGER and better than the 3.5" standard hard drives

I would be buying more laptop 2.5" hard drives than a 3.5" ones...........
