Hey guys in the past month my hit/quote ratio has been around 1/40 (.025 in baseball terms) and I don't like that. Any ideas in how to increase that ratio or am I doing everything I can? I get about 200 views a month, but only about 5 inquires. Can you guys make any suggestions?

Start by taking the prices off your website. To me you seem pretty reasonably priced but not all might feel the same make them call you for prices

Change the colors.

Black and dark blue are a horrible combination (even worse for me, because they are a migraine trigger in my case).

It looks dark and moody. Do some research on how color effects people -- there's plenty of info available -- advertising companies have studied it for eons.

@Jeff,

I disagree -- I like the idea of prices -- it will weed out those you don't want to talk to right off the bat...

I agree, but at least it isn't electric blue and black.... that is a brutal combination, especially when they throw in some yellow... :sqeek:

I have seen WHOLE websites that are black, electric blue, and yellow and I immediately leave those sites.

For sure but it will also turn away any potentials that might not realize the value of the service

You've been hanging out at Ryan's site again, haven't you Jeff... :sqlaugh:

Go back to yer bowling alley... :D

Too funny -- Ryan called me about something else while I was typing the above... I told you folks I live in a weird house :sqerr: :sqlaugh:

My #1 secret, I have a form on the first page and every other page I want my clients to contact me from...

the killer secrtet is that I put on there... ONLY put your phone number if you want us to call you...

Works all the time... 30+ Inquiries a month...

Also, just my first impression... you have Amazingly bad ass pictures, but you have a not so decent web design....

Use those pictures to your advantage...

Your website represents you and if that is the case it is contradicting your work... I love your pics but the site has got to go... Buy a template on monster.com and install it on your site...

Get a wordpress blog and make that your website... as I do with my photo booth site..

You have something that looks like a Christian cross in your banner image and a quick scan of your About Us page implies that the majority of your clients are churches (or at least, that you focus more on church lighting). This might be a turn-off to many potential clients, as it appears as though you only cater to one type of venue.

Also, the text on your site is very small, with tiny line breaks. It's very difficult to read. That might be part of the problem.

He's one for 40 and falling he doesn't have room to weed out anyone right now. If you don't get the people through the door you can't sell them anything. If they see the prices and believe they are firm they won't try to negotiate anything.

In his spot a $1000 job for $750 is better than a $1000 job down the toilet

I saw the cross too... It looks like a cross at a rave/concert which may actually, to me, be a turn off for some churches...

I agree on the text...

Except that most of the churches that are freaked out by it wouldn't hire me anyway.

I am working on some stuff, hope to have a new site up next week.

I hate to say that I think the contact forms on most DJ sites look very cheesy and cheap. I think I am going to stick with an email link.

Mike

You shouldn't knock it until you try it, honestly...

95% of my new business comes from my contact form... (Most book my $750 DJ and are ok Paying it)

Think about what your client..

Client scenario 1

He's at work, sitting in front of his computer,
he wants contact you...

His Options:
(1) if he clicks on the email link,
it will open MS Outlook, which is probably tied up to his work account... Not a good idea for some, no problem for others... (Possible Deterrent)

(2)
Call you

(3)
Come back to the website Later or find it again when he gets home

How many times have you wanted to go back to a website that you thought was good but could never remember how you found it in the first place... if this is the case, that client is gone FOREVER

If he had a form, he could have sent you a quick email asking you to call after 5:00 pm or 12:00pm during his lunch break.

Client scenario 2

Late in the evening, after work

(1) Click on the link
Not a deterrent unless he is like me and does not have outlook programmed at his home. then he has to log into his hotmail or yahoo account and copy and paste (a lot of work).. not very likely that this is the case but let's assume there's a 10-25% chance that may be the case.

(2) Call... It's after hours and I don't want to leave a voicemail

(3) Come back to the website when I'm at a computer that I can easily contact this business... (A saturday or sunday)...if this is the case, that client is gone FOREVER

You are batting .025

I am probably batting .05-.1 but I am booked EVERY weekend and 80% of my overall business comes from that contact form...

You should really track your visitors on your website and see them get there and just leave and never return...

That's when I said, I have to do something about this...

Taking your prices off is also a good idea... but you already said you are against that... I would encourage that... but do be prepared to give out pricing when they contact you...

I am taking prices off on the next revision. I did it kind of as an experiment after a long thread about it on here and it was a miserable failure so it is coming down.

By the way, I answer my phone 24/7 for potential clients (well as close to 24/7 as a single person operation can get).

I might try it, but it will take me a long time to figure out the formatting so that it doesn't look bad.
