I hate to say that I think the contact forms on most DJ sites look very cheesy and cheap. I think I am going to stick with an email link.

You shouldn't knock it until you try it, honestly...
95% of my new business comes from my contact form... (Most book my $750 DJ and are ok Paying it)
Think about what your client..
Client scenario 1
He's at work, sitting in front of his computer,
he wants contact you...
His Options:
(1) if he clicks on the email link,
it will open MS Outlook, which is probably tied up to his work account... Not a good idea for some, no problem for others... (Possible Deterrent)
(2)
Call you
(3)
Come back to the website Later or find it again when he gets home
How many times have you wanted to go back to a website that you thought was good but could never remember how you found it in the first place... if this is the case, that client is gone FOREVER
If he had a form, he could have sent you a quick email asking you to call after 5:00 pm or 12:00pm during his lunch break.
Client scenario 2
Late in the evening, after work
(1) Click on the link
Not a deterrent unless he is like me and does not have outlook programmed at his home. then he has to log into his hotmail or yahoo account and copy and paste (a lot of work).. not very likely that this is the case but let's assume there's a 10-25% chance that may be the case.
(2) Call... It's after hours and I don't want to leave a voicemail
(3) Come back to the website when I'm at a computer that I can easily contact this business... (A saturday or sunday)...if this is the case, that client is gone FOREVER
You are batting .025
I am probably batting .05-.1 but I am booked EVERY weekend and 80% of my overall business comes from that contact form...
You should really track your visitors on your website and see them get there and just leave and never return...
That's when I said, I have to do something about this...
Taking your prices off is also a good idea... but you already said you are against that... I would encourage that... but do be prepared to give out pricing when they contact you...
