Alrighty then, lets take this one slooooowly.

its like a kid who thinks milk is the only form of food and then tastes a candy bar.
No, this is equipment. It's not like food at all.

Ron in your world it has proven the best. There is Line Array stuff out there that would make those sticks into twigs, the BOSE name assists in your opinion.
Care to share and enlighten me as to what systems you refer?

Those of us who have used the L1 know what its capable of and it doesn't do all I needed a system to do without setting up 4 subs per side.
And where have I tried to sell it to you? Where have I said this is the best system for your use, you must buy it?

I think all Bose O's should wear kilts rather than opt for Rubens pants less club.
When you realize the convenience of a Kilt in the mens room, or how interested the Lady's are of men in Kilts then maybe you'll get one yourself. But Jon, don't get one of those plaid skirts off the rack in the teen section at Walmart. You need to have one custom cut from the traditional kilt makers in Scotland.

I'm Ron but I think you meant me.

The comment wasn't back handed the Bose system is great for what it is, it is pretty, it is small, it fits into the decor. It has a decent sound at a very low output, for certain venues, and events it is the perfect system.
Agreed and that's all I've ever said.

I have had and tested the Bose L1 and had a sound level meter in my hand and I know what it is capable of in SPL while 110 DB isn't bad it certainly isn't 120 DB or higher!
I have had the 70 year old grannies sitting 6 feet in front of the L1's and have tested them at all levels. Compared to your meter I will have to go with the review of the blue hairs. After all where the don't sit the meter in front of me at weddings, they do sit the old people there.

I have never heard the B1's so I certainly can't comment on their output but the laws of physics are still in effect in our world and a 6" sub (and I don't care how many you use) simply doesn't have the ability to reproduce the frequencies that an 18" sub will produce.
Again, if you can show me where I compared the L1's or B1's to any specific speaker system I'll gladly correct myself. You are doing the comparison understandable. I only work off of performance and the guests reaction.

I am using EV ZX1's as studio mains with a 10" sub and while they sound great for studio use I certainly wouldn't put them in a bar for a PA system.
Don't know them, never used them so I'd take your advise and make sure I don't ever purchase any. Just as I took Cap's advise as to the rigorous testing in live situations he put these things through. And after hearing from many, many, Bose L1 users I made the decision to purchase. A purchase I'm extremely glad I made every time I turn these things on. And with every conversation these spark up with the guests I know I made the right decision. I, me, myself.

All speakers have their niche and will excel in that niche the Bose L1 is no exception!
Very true. These are not concert speakers however I did see Steve Miller's keyboardist using them as a monitor once.

Next!

And why do they call it the Mountain? Because it rises above the rest.:sqwink::sqlaugh:

Yep! A mountain full o'..........! LOL You walked right into that one! Be careful manure smell is awful!:sqlaugh::rofl:

Ron my funny friend

is this you when doing the field study on the mountain or just another guest at one of your gigs?:sqwink:

Rob,

Sorry if you think I pissed in your oatmeal (I didn't) So if you were using a set of audiophile speakers that had the greatest clarity of any speaker and 97 DB spl but cost $5,000 each would you still say you had the best system for DJing or Karaoke?

And yes SPL does mean a lot when it is needed, if you went to a concert and the sound system was only capable of putting out 110 DB and you were 200 feet from the speakers would you be happy?
Now add in the fact that the crowd noise level is running at 97 to100 DB are you still happy or would you demand your money back?

You have to remember that the DB measurements are taken at 1 meter from the speakers not at the 200 foot mark or wherever you happen to be at the venue every 3DB increase in SPL is double the power. So if you are running at max 110 DB and Jon's Dynacords are running at 120 DB his volume is three times louder than your's, it doesn't really matter what you perceive your coverage to be yyour system will simply be drowned out.

The thing you have to consider is getting the best possible sound at the highest possible DB level for a given venue size/music type/floor noise level/etc.

As I said the Bose sticks are great in their niche but like any speaker system it handles a niche. Jon's Dynacord system also fits a niche, put him into the same gym with Val's system and again he will be drowned out!

Ron, that is exactly what the L1 was designed for "musicians monitors"

And yes I meant Rob he is the one who made the comment that i was refering to.:sqwink:

And I also agree with you the Blue haired granny sitting directly in front of your speaker is a great indicator of your sound level if you are doing a convention of blue haired grannies. I am more concerned with having the blue hairs seated at the furtherest possible distance from my speakers so the people who want to dance can have some fun too!

SPL means squat.... I can get a cheap azz car stereo do that... doesn't mean it sounds good.

Give me a break.... SPL is only a small and very insignificant factor in relation to good sound. Extreme SPL's are nether required nor in most cases desired for most Large events outside of the Club or Concert arena.

I like Ron am tired of this silly argument.... Bose does a great job in many kinds of events. It is not necessary to have the loudest and biggest thing to get the job done well....

Take for instance Dynacord.... certainly not Bose but, it gets the job done very well in a small footprint and in that respect they are alot like Bose. Yet you don't hear folks yippin' about how they do a good job for what they are.
Well... I tend to agree in theory, Rob. :)

In honesty, SPL is a critical factor when making the call for the system needed for the job.

Many folks confuse SPL with FOH or near-field applications. And that's true for front-radiating cabinets used indoors. But when you get into the far field, SPL will drop significantly because the sound waves disperse. Those in the lawn seats expect a clear tone just as the patrons in the front row do. And if there's a busy highway nearby with 18 wheelers roaring along, folks tailgating on the prairie ain't gonna hear a 300 watt PA, sorry.

For my part I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. We've done backyard weddings that became field parties later in the night. Since the necessary equipment was already on site all we had to do was push the slider up a bit.

The same system delivers a fine tone in cramped rental houses; we just lower the volume, that's all.

And we didn't pay five grand for it. :)

Oh my Lord.... first of all even the orginal post doesn't specify concert level sound.......

Second, what does the DB level have to do with good sound... nothing. It just means it's loud. And in the case of a directional system it's loud in one direction.

You'll never convice me that I need chest pounding power to sound good. My events simply don't call for that kind of sound...

I do not do rock concerts. I do not do clubs. I do not do huge assemblies of screaming kids (huge is anything over 600ppl). I do not need nor desire that kind of system.

So... in short SPL means nothing it's just a number that represents noise level. I do not desire a high noise level. I do desire great sound that can be heard throughout a venue and remains constant and sounds good without dropping off just because I am off axis with the speakers.

You all can keep your huge FOH systems... I don't want them. Most of all that yipping is really anoying... Bose gets the job done period.

I get so confused sometimes. When you're a target such as me the names get confusing. The L1's were not designed for musician monitors alone. They were designed for musician's use as a personal PA, with the ability of placing these units behind the musician, they now acted as a monitor as well. No need for the little boxes on the floor in front. The musician would hear exactly what the audience is hearing. But I don't care about musicians use, I only care about mine. And since Jon can't produce another array system that's comparable if not better for me than the L1 to investigate I'll be sticking (pun intended) with these.

Jon,
It's like the old commercial with Kelly Labrock. "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful".

Houston,
It maybe cow sh!# where you come from but everyone tried to climb the mountain, to reach for the top. Keep humping you're almost there. We can see you from atop the Bose Mountain:sqwink:

Rob,
You had me at "sounds good".

Ron I havent a need to produce anything wouldnt want to put a box around your outside views. Do more research Obie Wan. Do I have to do everything for you now. Go help Cap sell Eggs LOL.

There was another point Rob made that i wanted to hit on.... foot print!

Rob,

Please inform us of the foot print size you are refering too! what area does two of your L1's take up on the floor?

My Pair of Peavey SP 118's and pair of SP4's (215) take up a grand total of 960 sq inches! How much smaller of a space does a pair of L1's and a pair of B1's take up?

Multiply the length times the width of the base of one L1 and one B1 and multiply that number by two and you will have your answer!

I already know the answer I just want to see you put it in print :sqlaugh:

Well which is it? Either there is or their isn't. I'm willing to listen, read, and learn. You brought it up not me.

The system I posted above only produces 96 DB but they have a tube line array that uses 8 inch speakers mounted on a dual 18 inch sub that produces 120+ DB and each speaker as in the posted system is aimable!

Ron as for other sticks here ya go this is just one of many.

These appear to be quite nice. I don't see them for use as a portable sound system.

Applications

• Houses of Worship: traditional & modern
• Transport Terminals: train stations, airports, etc.
• Stadiums & Arenas: lobbies & forecourts
• Convention Centers, warehouses, etc.
• Museums: lobbies, galleries, etc.
• Performing Arts Centers: vocal/orchestral “lift,” lobbies, etc.
• Any highly reverberant environment where enjoyable music and/ or intelligible speech are as important as the architectural design

I do know Bose makes a similar product in fact I've seen them in use hanging on the wall in the Worester Train station. And I'm sure this system is quite expensive. But, still interesting.

Thanks Rob,

So what are you getting hyped about when I say that the Bose system is great for what it is?

We are in total agreement on the subject that the Bose fits a niche!

My thing is I do do weddings, small parties, bars, etc. I also do clubs, field parties, small concerts, and several events each year where there are more than 600 screaming kids in attendance.

I don't desire great sound that can be heard throughout a venue that sounds good dropping off be cause I am off axis with the speakers I demand it! Which is why I set up my systems to provide that in each and every venue I do!

Ron,

I will see if I can find the other "band" "DJ" system I refered to, I posted it before in one of these type of discussions.

It is a portable system!

Steve how about the way you set your Peaveys up as a semi line array and the results ya got.

200 degree coverage! :sqlaugh: using 4 impulse 100's 10 inch speakers, 110 DB within 35 feet of the speaker cluster (not pushing them), total cost of the system including the amps less than $1500, much better bass response than the L1.

Now that's a system you should be selling. Do you have any pictures of people standing in front of them holding a conversation while the music is at a higher danceable volume? Or how comfortable would the people be sitting 3 to 6 feet in front of that setup, again while the levels are at a high volume?

I'm not nit picking but those situations are all to common and have been all but eliminated for me with the L1's.
