Ok if you guys didn't see this posted on one DJ chat I wanted to post the video here. This was an event that someone shot and then put it out for DJ's to see. I put it on youtube but called it "This is painful" Only because the originator posted it as bad DJ. I thought some of you could use it as a sales tool of what you are not. Watch the video all the way through even though it will be painful. The bad part of this is that the poster said these folks have been DJing for 10 years and that the singing of the first dance is usually a suprise by the DJ company. So imagine tell a DJ what song you want for your first dance but instead of playing it they sing it.

OMG..... I would be so embarased if that had been me or my wedding... if you do this on a regular basis you had better clear it with the client first .... and damnit you had better be prepaired.:sqmad:
 
I felt so sorry for the bride and groom watching that. I would have been seriously PO'd if that was my wedding.
Right off the bat, you see her announcing the couple in jeans! They ruined some very special moments for those people and should not be allowed near a cd player never mind someone's wedding. ugh! :sqfrown:
 
Wow, that's about as bad as it gets. These people have no business doing weddings or anything else for that matter. This is good sales material to show potential clients who say you are three times as much as Tommy The DJ. Show them your video first, then this one.

That's why I posted it. It will be going on my Ipod touch and I will show my perspective clients If I feel they need to see it.

How do you get a youtube video on your iTouch? Or do you just mean a saved place from the browser?

Sorry maybe I should change that. I bought the old version of the Iphone I do not use the service. So I only use it as and Ipod but it can search and use a wifi connection. The phone has been jailbroke and has and ap that will download and install the youtube video on the phone so that it just sees and plays it like a normal video file.
 
I would not use this to show a potential client. Too negative, I'd rather sell them on us in a positive manner.

Again this is not something I would normally show a client it might be something I might put on my blog or only show a client if pricing was a big issue then I could say lets take a look at what a professional is not. And show them the video and tell them how I deal or would have dealt with this differently. Honestly I think many people fear a DJ that they don't know could be like this.
 
Maybe not like this but do you know that at that very moment ANYTHING can occur thats beyond your control? This instance looked like a total F**k up by the DJ. They should be taken out back and shot, twice for that matter.
However with that being said we all have to thank our lucky stars that bad things have not happened to us. My worst scenario was when I lost sound from one of my tweeter banks (1 cabinet), the other five was playing (Thank God for a active 3-way system). I quickly found out that a little boy had sneaked behind the speaker setup and tugged on the speaker wire leading to that set of tweeters. When it happened I almost did the poopy thing. It was not the time to do repairs or even switch out.
 
Actually this was our worst moment. This was a dance done in June last year. In advance we told the bride and groom we needed our own power circuit and we where given it. During the ceremony in a different area her people plugged all the fans (3 fans 4 feet tall) and all the lights (Tent wedding 150 foot long) into the same circuit not understand that you can have a different plug in but the same circuit. This wedding was on the grandfathers property.

The bride and groom understood what happened and did not blame us. In fact 2 weeks later they called and asked if we could do the brides mothers birthday. But because of this I have made it a point so that when we do our first outside wedding of the year next month that we will own a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) so that if this where to happen again we could at least finish the song.

The good part was that the lady doing video was very good and after talking to her we restaged the first dance and had everyone woop it up for them and there video. About 20 seconds after the power went out I went out on the dance floor and yelled " you know your a pretty hot couple when you can kill the power like that".

Everyone laughed and everything got fixed. On a side not I will use this video to explain to a bride and groom when they want us for an outside wedding how important it is for us to have our own circuit. I will also tell them about the bride and groom understanding this was not our fault and how they wanted us back again for another event.

Also I will tell them how even though this was not our fault it is my desire to never have it happen again thus my reason for buying a UPS. This tends to drive the idea home of having our own supply and actually gives them the ability to see us doing a wedding (And making this type of song for a first dance). :sqbiggrin: I have had this video on here before. I also put it on Youtube so that other DJ's could use it as a tool to show how having good power is important. For me this was a huge lesson learned.

thats why unless they know what they are doing do it, or just leave it to the PRO's ....

I would demand a refund!!
 
I saw the previous video on another forum and sent a copy to all the guys on my local ADJA Chapter.

NextGen, a couple years ago I had a similar problem with an out door event. Didn't happen during the special dances, but when it got later and they had fans and lights going. We were a couple hundred feet from the closest outlets to which were on the side of a house. Not only that, but one of the cords would keep coming up plugged somehow.
