Cam - I know what you mean, it could be a little nerve-racking with all your amplifier eggs in one basket (so to speak). I personally run a pair of the passive 15-3's with passive 18 subs bi-amped with LX3000's and a DSP-244 processor (thank God for employee discounts!). Really I only do it this way because I am brain damaged...well, maybe I just like it really, really, really really LOUD!

That being said, in my 5 years with the company I have never seen nor heard of a Powersub 315 failing. I just looked through our system and every single return authorization that we have issued in the U.S. was due to damage that occurred during shipment. The added voice coil tracking protection circuits make it virtually imposssible to blow the woofer and the amp module itself has the same protection package as Dynacord outboard amplifiers have (Audio Limiters, High Temperature, DC, HF, Back-EMF, Peak current Limiters Inrush Current Limiters, and Turn-On delay). I would not hesitate to use this sub myself each and every day...it is more than adequate for the additional satellite speakers as well.

Now as far as the D12 vs. the D12-3, it is all a matter of personal taste. I personally prefer the smoother midrange of the 3-way vs. the "crispy" high end of the 2-way. You really can't go wrong either way, but the 3-way box coupled with the sub will give you a true 4-way system which in turn allows each transducer to work a little easier reproducing a smaller portion of the frequency spectrum.

Just buy it...you'll dig it!

I will say that I can tell a very noticeable difference with my D12-3 tops. The true 4-way system sure brings out parts of the music I have never heard before. Did you know that they use cowbells in so many songs? I would have never guessed until I had heard it for myself! Another testament to the Dynacord for being a supreme system!!!

True enough, Rob!!! I even had a guy come up to me and tell me he thought one of my speakers was blown one time!!! :sqerr: Turns out it was a very rhaspy guitar line that no one (including me) had ever picked out of this particular song before until it was heard on the 4-way D-Lite 3012!

I was really scared when he brought that to my attention, until I got to the next song and everything was fine! Oh, little Dyna never ceases to amaze me!!!:sqbiggrin:
 
I want to truly apologize for breaking the reverie but everyone and there are more than one of you who never heard this or that before, don't you own a good set of cans? If I'm unsure of what I'm hearing out of the cones, reach for the cans.

So here's a target acceptable to hate. This whole thread is taking on a religious / messianic cast, something like the Bose threads did. In any case, bet of luck to the owners of the new Dynacord systems, not that is seems you will need much luck.

Cam asked the operative question that needed to be asked. What happens when it makes toast? The answer was reassuring but not as reassuring as having backup equipment. Once again, congrats on the purchases.

I really don't want to start a pissing match here and i am sure the Delight systems is an awesome system but let's please use the correct terminology in relationship to what you have.

A four way system will consist of an amp and driver for each of four different sets of frequencies.

A two way system will consist of an amp of the lows and an amp for the hi's or mid-his as it were.

You can't get a quad-amped sound from a bi-amped system no matter what you do or what kind of processing you have or how many drivers are being drivin by one amp.

At the most you can call it a "Qausi" four way system, I run 3 and four way systems all the time and it requires a crossover (capable of 4 way) an amp for each driver (in stereo) or for each set of drivers (in mono)

While "3 way" cabinets are nice if you are not running an amp feed by seperate frequencies to the hi's Mid's and Low's you are utilizing them as 3 way cabinets. In the case of 4 way you would be running an amp to each driver hi's, mid's, low's and sub frequencies. Otherwise you are still running a simple two setup and it can't be painted any other way.

Not trying to pee on anyone's fire here just pointing out some simple facts!

As many threads here do, this one has taken twists and turns.

All I wanted to do was share the what I had bought, that it arrived and that I'm proud of my purchase.

I have no intent on debating about the reliability of product A or B, in fact I never stated I wasn't going to have back up equipment with my new rig. I have always had backup of most everything and don't intend to stop that practice.

I don't care if you run active or passive, if an amp feeding a speaker or speakers blows, you're done. To not have a backup amp in your rack or spare pair of passive or active speakers on hand is foolish.

Call it "Quasi", "Pseudo", "Semi", or anything you'd like...bottom line is I would put it up against any system on the market at this price point.
 
Steve, with my two active tops and one active sub, I have a three-way system. Each driver is being powered by a separate amp and crossed over at a predetermined frequency. In my system it breaks down like this: below 100Hz to the sub, 100-1800Hz to the 12" woofer in the 2-way box and above 1800Hz to the horn. I have the option of setting my sub-woofer crossover frequency to 80 or 100 or 120Hz. That's uning a pair of FBT 4a's and an RCF 705AS sub.

If I add the 18" RCF 8001AS sub, then I can set it to take everything below 80Hz, send 80-120Hz to the 705AS, leaving 120-1800Hz going to the woofer in the 4a and 1800Hz and up to the horn. I would then have a 4-way system!

Oh I agree with you 100% except for the work load senerio! the amp is what carries the load, with a passive crossover the amp is still producing the full range of frequencies and with the passive crossover also comes the loss of power from the amp in the process of seperating those frequencies (chokes take an awful lot of power away from the drivers)

You lose not only power through passive crossovers but slope as well. No passive crossovers (to my knowledge) can produce a given set of frequncies as cleanly as the simplest form of active crossover.

And your point of putting it up against any system of it's type and price point on the market, I have no doubt that it performs better than any other system of that type and price! So we are in agreement here.

I was simply pointing out what a 2, 3 and 4 way system was and was not!

You are correct, you do have a three way system. There is an active crossover not only in the sub but in each of the mains as well. There is also an amp for each driver in the system, each producing a specific range of freqencies! Adding the 18" and the other "active" crossover would indeed give you a 4 way system.
 
Hey Thunder, I agree with you 100%. A system that is sending everthing above the sub-woofer frequency into a pair of passive tops can / will never sound as good as a true active system. Also, the passive crossover in the tops will consume a portion of the amps available power for no productive purpose.
 
Why are we debating crossovers, amps, passive v active, and everything else that has nothing to do with Keith's thoughts on a new sound system?

My post on the subject was to simple correct the misinformation already put out on the subject of 3 and 4 way systems!
 
I have four amplifiers. Im cool with it no matter the definition and confident in the efficiency.
