Sounds like a good opportunity to offer an ipod dock and self powered speakers as a rental....

Wrong, because the entire wedding will be lost without a DJ running the show!

And if you have a small reception where background music is all that is necessary, why does a DJ need to be present to run the show?
Think about this:
1. Numark IDJ
2. Fender Passport or Peavey Escort.
3. User provides the IPOD.
I did have an IPOD package available but dropped it because it just wasn't working. I'm thinking about going to this.
I would highly recommend the Peavey based on sound and portability.
Here's what it would cost you:
$650 for the Peavey
$150 for the Numark IDJ
So, for $800 you can have your setup.
Charge $400 for a day rental. Include transportation to and from the site and set up and strike. Add things like:
Master/Mistress of ceremonies for $100/hour
On-site technical support for $100/hour
Two IPOD events and you've got your money back.
Me thinks I'm going to reinstitute it this way.

1. Numark IDJ
2. Fender Passport or Peavey Escort.
3. User provides the IPOD.

Yes, that's right. The wedding will be lost. But I made money when they needed an Ipod soundstation AND I'll be the DJ for their next event when they realize they needed me in the first place.
...and I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night!

i was emulating the high brow comedy contained within a series of advertisements and jt followed suit and i thought it was really funny but it was somewhat off topic and i'm sorry because i truly have nothing against iPod weddings because once you stray from vinyl everything sucks gondolas anyway
:sqembarrassed:
Great one Johnny

Most DJs really do live in a fantasy world - thinking they have cornered the ability to speak coherently and interestingly on a microphone, for example.
Managing a wedding reception isn't that difficult if you're a normal socially minded person. It's basic ettiquette applied to gracious entertaining. You can usually tell within a few minutes of meeting someone if they're capable of it.
Wedding DJ's make my want to vomit, with their stupid straw sombreros and inflatable saxaphones they pass out. I hope my wedding, should i ever get married has none of that awful cliche crap.
According to Toastmasters International (who should know since they're the experts on Public Speaking).....over 90% of the population would rather DIE than speak in front of a live audience.
This basic fact means, statistically, that very few people can do what we do!
