Sigh.....
Sigh? Damn, you're hard to please.

So let me spell it out for you:

If I had a choice of doing an event for my regular rate, or a lower rate, and the only difference is the number of people, I'd do the one at my regular rate.

If I had a choice of doing an event for my regular rate, or a higher rate, and the only difference is the number of people, I'd wonder why the other client was offering more, and end up doing the one at my regular rate.

As I said previously, the number of people is irrelevant.

on a given day ten people see you and want your service while on another 2000 see you but have no interest in what you offer. numbers are irrelevant on many occasions.

I'm with houston. This is a business. It's not ALL about money, but it's MOSTLY about money. I'd take the cash.

With the rationale of taking 25% less so you could get in front of more people, why then not offer discounts for large events?

How can some of you chaps expect to get business/referrals from the attendees when you think it is tacky to "advertise" yourself at these gigs. Its been said here by many that they don't show their logo or have a sign or nothing except for some business cards, which in some cases are not even available to the guests unless they ask for it.

Another benefit to playing for 25 people is that I can use less gear for more money. I don't need the ego just show me the moneyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

Because if you look at what I wrote to Dave Miller, you will better understand the thinking of this post.

What Scott said is different to what Dave Miller said. I understand his sentiment but I will let him be the one to explain what he means.

Also, if you ask me, and you didn't, the 250 person event is much less stressful.
well now I am asking...how is it less stressful?

It's less stressful because witha large wedding there is a bigger margin for "error" i.e. with enough people you're always going to ahve some people on the floor. A smaller group takes a little more interraction. With this being said I don't find either more or less stressful. What I do find stressful is giving up caaaash money!

With 25 people the spotlight is shining right on me ( except for the B & G ).... with 250 people it's more like a flood light.

I would rather take 25 requests and make 25 people happy than 250 requests and maybe not able to fulfill all. If equipment was to malfunction it will do so regardless of how many people are in the audience.

I believe I understand the thinking of the post, just not sure that I agree with it:)

I certainly would not turn down a 25% increase over my normal fee because someone was only going to have 25 people there.

I don't feel any less pressure with more people there. If I am not doing my job properly, some of the 250 people will notice just as easily as some of the 25 people will notice. The only difference may be I may not notice THEM as easily. The only pressure I feel is to make sure I am prepared for the event. Once I truly feel I am prepared, which means double checking everything when I'm set up, and double checking that I have everything I need ready to go, walking through each thing that I need to do for the evening, and my back up plan, I don't feel any pressure. It's simply executing the plan and making adjustments through out the evening as needed.

LOL cracks me up Papa posts what he thinks will be a fun little post and away we goooooo... LOL

Truthfully, how many of you even have any real experience doing a 25 person wedding? LOL How do you know what they are even like?

Not a 25 person wedding, but a company party for 15.... And I HATED doing it.

Scott, I am cool if nobody agrees... if they understood that this was for fun, and understood the parameters - Like I gave to Dave. I get it. Some people are more businesslike than others. I have always said that I am a hobbyist who treats my hobby like a business.

Ahh but see,, a company party is even different than a wedding my Brudder Chuck..... at a company party you still have the wierdness of the Boss there, or other employees and they might not come from the same background or have the same personal experience.....

BUT...

at a 15 or 25 (or 33 in my case tomorrow) wedding, these are your close ohana (family) ,,, shared life experiences, and so on,,, they know that John is the cut up in the crowd and that when drunk Sally dances like a slut, it's all good,,,, small events are much more personal and tight,,, formal intro's??????? Why? Everyone knows everyone, and in some cases, knows them to well! LOL

Oh, you are correct, I am sure. But I like the interaction at big events. I don't want the same guy coming up 11x at one event for a request. I just feel more at ease in front of a big crowd, whether it be a wedding, or anything else.
