I totally concur Bill. I use I Tunes for the oddball request and for album tracks on new country music releases.
Using I Tunes to convert them to 320cbr is a snap.
I only use I Tunes for music purchases and nothing else as I am still a Zune user.

That is one additional step after the purchase is made! Then on top of that, you have to move it. Won't it be easier to just buy an MP3?
Pardon me for asking, but doesn't your software have ALL your files in its Collection/database? Why the need of another format to play a song?
I'm not sure I understand your question. There's only one format after being converted to an mp3.
Do you use Rockit exclusively as the software for playing music at an event, Cocktail Hour, Background Music, the Event itself for dancing?
Again the reason for asking is that I know some DJs on here who have a DJ software but use another format such as Winamp, Windows Media Player etc to play Cocktail music. Why, I ask? Can't their DJ software play Cocktail Songs? Do they not know how to make a playlist with the cocktail hour songs at the top of the list? When it is time for dancing all they have to do is delete the unplayed Cocktail songs from the list and continue with the dance playlist.
Why does it matter? Why do you use 40 year old gear? It works for you....If DJ A wants to use winamp for cocktails and Rock-it for dance, who cares?

This isn't the issue; I tunes by default are not mp3 files; they have to be converted....If one chooses to use Itunes, there is a simple one click conversion....I one wants to play the native .m4p? file, the software must support it; some do, some don't. I don't belive Rock-it supports it.

Yup...RockIt and RockIt only. Yea, I also don't understand DJs who use different software for different methods of playing music - unless you use RockIt for most events and maybe a more feature laden scratch and itch software for Proms and club play...
Sure I use the auto-play feature during dinner, but after that, it's all live me and my talent.
Just to clarify .. it's only songs bought from the iTunes "store" that start in .aac (mp4) format. iTunes itself doesn't care. You can have all files in .mp3, .wav, or even apple lossless format if you want, depending on your input settings, and yes you can one-click convert them to .mp3 from another format.
I hate Itunes...I love my Iphone so it's almost a necessary evil.

My solution was give my iPod to my sister and have her sync it with the Mac in the living room. 
iTunes uninstalled on desktop. Windows Media Player is decent enough for me. Just wish it had built in access to Shoutcast been using VLC for .pls files, might go back to Winamp though just for Shout Cast access.

I'm not sure what all the hate is about. iTunes doesn't hide anything and if you want none of it in memory you just disable the iTunesHelper app from start up and stop the 3 services: apple mobile device, bonjour and iPod services. It's not very difficult.

There's a button for that???? I just pull the wire or take the battery out that shuts down them critters
For all the iHaters, it's a free product and works pretty darn well .. I don't see much system impact, I can shop there (if I want to), I can have video and books, set playlists, etc. I said it before .. not my first choice, but it works, and it wouldn't take them much to make it competitive .. heck they even have cool "visualizers"
I do not hate I products I hate Apple's way of doing things. The are now big brother, and what you to do things their way.
ITunes works fine with ripped CDs (mp3, wav), so there really isn't anything in there that Apple makes one do except you can't buy directly from someone else. You can always download from your provider of choice and bring it in. I'm not sure what is expected .. it isn't open sourced (which has it's own issues at times like lack of support).
the iPod/iPhone/iPad hardware lock out is a different beast ... I would prefer a more open platform there, but I bought them knowing the limitations because they work really well.

That works great until you start one of those services and it resets itself to start again. If it wasn't a recognized product it would be considered a virus
I run I tunes on many machines; it's never been an issue; perhaps it's the pron sites, not Itunes
