Hey kinda off subject here, but I am debating on getting single cab with 2-15/horn or a cab with 1-15/horn and a sub.....any suggestions
Why a single?
That was you that picked up that deal with the JBL's right?
If so I'd look at a matching sub or something from the EV line....
nah I havn't picked up any speakers yet, I was going to build them but I am running out time before my first gig and still have a ton to do. So i was thinking either a pair of dual 15's or a pair of single 15's or maybe 12's with subs
Cheap wise but good sound I'd go Yamaha BR-15's with a pair of powered subs or atleast a single sub.... I ran just a pair of the Yamaha's when I started out and they sounded great..... or look for a pair of used JBL EON G2's some say they don't like them but I had a pair of those too before I started to DJ back in 2003 but sold them to make a car payment.... I thought they sounded great personally. EQ'd right and just about any speaker save Gemsound and the like should sound good.
For a few bucks more the Yamaha Club series 15's are great too.... they have a higher watts handling and a wider dispersion horn than the BR-15
Peavey, JBL, Behringer and Yamaha are all about the same price, I really hate not being to listen to them in person. I have always thought Peavey sounded muddy at higher volumes, but it has been more than a couple years since I have really listened to a pair. Yamaha speakers used to have good highs and mids, but started dropping off below around 1k hz. I know nothing about the JBL and Behringer.
There are a couple of Peavy guys here on this board PM Thunder he'd have some great ideas....
With any speaker you get it's all about the EQ.... you can make almost any speaker sing if you know which frequencies to cut and which to boost....
Many will sugest at least a 31 band eq for this but I like the Behringer DEQ-2490 Ultra-Curve.... it has an RTA and AutoEQ feature not to mention feedback control and other features.... realatively cheap and despite the behringer haters it's a good piece of gear...
I used it in conjunction with my Yamaha BR-15 and let me tell you if you use the autoEQ feature along with RTA (Ringing out the room) correctly those speakers sing... I'm not kidding.
I'll just drag my Martin Logan's out.....NOT..... Could you imagine the size of the resonant grill for a pa speaker. It would have to come with it's own trailer hitch.
the new model is a DEQ-2496 I think. I was looking at a 31 band eq, but there really isn't that much price difference in the two. I kinda checked it out, but figured is was way more than what I needed. I have kind of a minimalist attitude toward equipment. The less crap you have, the fewer problems you can have also......
I am very well known in the community, but as a big burly construction worker. Not as an Entertainer, and I also have a partner, wouldn't be fair to him.
I agree keeping things as simple as possiblle is a good idea... but, tone shaping and eq'n a room is much simpler with the DEQ (btw the model number you mention is the one I ment)...

so do I need to set a mike just for the eq and leave it. Or does it set the parameters using white noise during set up?
