What ?? Where's my PCDJ DEX RE ?? I have a bunch of those apps (Serato, Traktor, DJay - on the iPad and Mixxx) and yet still haven't found my "true love". I want 1 app for music, video and the occasional karaoke. I know I can do it with multiple apps, and I may get stuck with that if something like Karafun turns out to be the cheapest way for karaoke access for a private party now and then. But the only apps that seem to do it all are PCDJ DEX and VDJ and I've had some stumbles with PCDJ with some file and song management (though seems to be OK with music in an iTunes database).

I said it on more than one occasion, but I think I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay the $300 for VDJ (I only have the limited version and there is no upgrade to my Denon).

To provide further context, the largest percentage of respondents (about 22%) in this survey are "Bedroom/Hobbyist DJ's" - they have never had to sweat-it-out in front of a crowd. None the less, there was over 32,000 responses - that's a big sampling - and year over year does show meaningful shifts.

I think that's further evidence of the Pioneer strategy though. Make entry level gear for people that want to tinker, and you make software accessible for them, so they use it.

The working professional is just a small portion of the DJ gear and DJ software market. There's a lot more hobbyists and bedroom DJs than there are pros.

I’ve tried that (PCDJ DEX RE) too, and rather liked it. I kinda got scared away from it by some pretty harsh reviews I read. One thing about Traktor, is it is pretty darn reliable. I’ve NEVER had a software crash.
It's been fine for my use since most of my library is managed in iTunes (to sync with my phone/iPads) but have also heard there are issues with folks syncing standard directories (and again not sure if internal or external drives). I would have to move to the full DEX for some of the features i would need and if I'm going to pay $100+ for that, I might as well apply it to the right product, which "seems" like VDJ at this point.

I know...I know. Good old Red for me was the best....totally stable, simple and did everything I needed.
I upgraded from Red years ago .. RE isn't very different.

What is even more surprising, Rekordbox switched to a monthly subscription payment plan, which looks it did not impede sales at all.

Still having too much free time, I decided to look further into all the hoopla with Rekordbox. Apparently, V6.5.1 is a free download, and will work for free when it doesn't see a controller. So that's what I did - I'm using my Audio 2 DJ sound card (ASIO driver) with Rekordbox in "External Mixer" mode.

What I've learned so far -
1) There is still some left-over Mixvibes DNA in it
2) Welcome to the world's slowest Song Analysis. I mean REALLY slow on a 4 core i5 laptop.
3) No option for auto-reset of pitch/tempo when loading a song to a deck

I do not have a Pioneer Controller, which I'm sure it tightly integrates with, but so far (at least for my king of DJ'ing) I don't understand it's popularity.

I also tried Traktor DJ 2, which is supposed to be based on more modern code than Traktor Pro 3.
Totally useless.

Everyone's busy in the Zoo right now, checking each other out to see who has the biggest d**k, so this thread resurrection may go unnoticed, but -

I did a gig two weeks ago for the first time in almost a year, and my laptop threw up two times. This has never happened to me before. I was still using Mixvibes old Cross DJ V3.4.3 - the only real change in that time has been a crap load of Windows 10 updates. Unfortunately the error logs point to the usual non-descript Windows errors.

Cross DJ V3.4.3 w/Windows 7 never crashed, so I was probably one of the last here to (reluctantly) move to Windows 10. However, 10 has grown on me, so I must move forward.

I hate Mixvibes newest Cross DJ, version 4.2, and while I bedroom DJ with Serato, like Steve, I've never loved it. Bottom line, I've moved to Traktor Pro's newest, V3.4.2

Moving my Playlists over has been a real PIA, but it's done. I hope they don't go out of business next week!!

What do you like about Traktor that Serato doesn't offer? I'm not defending Serato, I'm just curious what features you need.
