What if your wife pressured you to lower your price for one of her friends?

My wife is alone almost every weekend with 4 small kids.

If my wife wants me to do a gig and she tells me I'm doing it for FREE, as long as she's there, I'm doing it.

Other than that I have a standard friends and family rate.
I have 4 girls as well. My wife works harder than I do. So?

She knows better than to ask me something like that. Not because I wouldn't but she knows that if they were true friends they wouldn't have asked in the first place. Besides, she like money just as much as I do.

Find out what this jack@$$ does for a living. Tell him, sure I'll drop my price to $450. Right after you get your sorry @$$ over here and mow my lawn and trim by shrubs.:sqcool:

Ron, if my wife is gonna be there I don't have a problem. The point is we never get to hang out on weekends very often and if she comes to a show then cool. More often than not I'm doing it for the friends and family discount anyway if she asks.

She knows better than to ask me for free. Its her money too.

Go ask her for the difference she is asking you to choke down from your full price. Then when she asks what for. Tell her a friendly co worker of yours needs enough money to go out next weekend on the town. You being a friend and all felt obliged.

Let's see, at the hospital when needed I can run diagnostic tests at cost for my family members (Parents, sister, nephew and my GF), the general administration knows it and there's no problem about it. I could give friends a discount, but I never do. The reason is quite simple another one finds out and then another until all of them want a discount, that just won't fly, business is business.

If I marry my GF then her family changes bracket and can get the stuff done at cost, and she knows not to ask for discounts for friends, She understands the reasons.

Papa may DJ as a hobby, however it's still business and if there's one thing that pisses me off is somebody trying to go over my head to get something they want when they know I will not do what they were asking.

Pretty simple IMHO

Exactly! Well stated, thank you.

That is the other thing.... I asked my wife to go.... now she does have to take my kids to a soccer game that will make it about 7PM when she gets home... The party is supposed to go until 11PM , maybe 11:30PM.... She said she doesn't want to go to all the trouble of getting a sitter and getting dressed up to go...

Sounds like a regular gig.

or in my case a "friends and family discount".

Jacob,
Can I get a discount on an autopsy? I'll pay you after you're finished, I promise.:sqerr:

I sure could use a whole bunch of body parts sectioned to set them in acrylic and send them to the different med schools, no charge :D:D:D:D:D:D

One sentence....Happy Wife, Happy Life.

But really, any discounted prices we decide as a team, because we DJ as a team.

Ah, and there may be ths issue.... my wife not only doesn't really like my DJing, she also is not a huge fan of music in general..... After the 1980's I think she stopped listening to anything new.

Amen to all of that brother. My wife really hates me workin' as a DJ. I just can't find a way to make an extra $800 a Saturday as a door greeter at wally world otherwise I'd be so there.

My wife is OK with some new music and she has a really crazy memory for lyrics.. Just a couple time with a song and she's got it.

I mean she had Crank That memorized in like 2 listens! I was amazed....(edit: this part is a joke)

no but seriously, she hates me DJ'n but I got pay for our rock n'roll lifestyle somehow. The van is getting small and the groupies (kids) are startin' to smell.

If Coreen thought it was important to do so, I'm sure that something satisfactory would be worked out. Also, I believe that she would have discussed this beforehand with me, so that it wouldn't have come out of the blue.

Although she rarely touches the equipment (DJ, that is :sqwink:) we're partners in this venture and sometimes a sacrifice needs to be made on one side or the other.

Bottom line Chuck, you've got to go with what's in your heart.

peace out :color:
