Feel free. Although I believe a persons life is their own. I'm not going to post where Wes stores his gear, although I could find out.
My comments involved security -- which is the field I'm going back into as far as software. There is little money to be made in DJ software now, because many of them are free.

Okay, let me clarify something. I just spoke with Peter via Facebook and he reminded me that he had used the term first (on his website) and I had requested permission to use it on my site. He gave me that permission via email. That was back in 2002. That does create some grey area, so I'm going to relent and just change it to Wedding Entertainment Specialist (WES for short). I still feel they went about this all wrong and as a result I cannot and will not recommend anyone do business with them.
It has been legally trademarked by Mr. Merry and the WEDG. Doesn't matter who used it first or why. Once they got the government approval FIRST, nobody may use it...period.
Oh, one can argue when, how, and why but have they the money, time, and energy to pursue such a inconsequential title?
Why the certified letter? How many friggin' DJ non-payment threads ALWAYS end up saying "send a certified letter as proof"? Zap. You been proofed. Really quite simple and really quite professional. It might have come later as a court order.
Folks can get outraged, pound fists, stomp your feet, waggle a finger, berate and belittle, smear and slander, play a TV lawyer or impersonate Judge Judy, but when they are done, remove Wedding Entertainment Director or get sued.

I came up with the term, used the term, and now it's become very common place used by many in my neck of the woods. Funny though, no one has ever been polite enough to ask me if they can use it; they just do. Sigh.

Sorry to hear that Wes. I'm working with a bunch of central America folks right now, so I can't afford to be nice and funny at the moment. Try working with a crew of non-English speaking people all day, and then staying up all night watching their assets.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the lamers at the WED Guild frat, Wes. Quite frankly, I like your idea of changing to Wedding Entertainment Specialist and I think you should get both the phrase and the acronym trademarked, if possible. You're DJ WES and you specialize in wedding entertainment. I'm sure other people use it, but it's up to you whether you want to bug them about it. It might be good for you to have a protected title though for the sake of not having the lamers at the WED frat try to push you around. Besides, it would then be a title that you can control.
That is exactly the thing to do. If you can prove you were using it first make them remove it under threat of legal action.

You can't find it because you have to search for the Canadian version. Try "Wedding Entertainment Director, Eh" for the Canadian trademark.
Frankly I don't see what the big deal is to warrant this discussion to go to page 2. Either you make the change as they ask or you don't and find someone else to give your business to. Now my question to you is how much has advertising with them has helped you and your business? I don't see anything wrong with you making such a simple change regardless of the reason they want you to do it. I wouldn't lose any sleep over such a small issue. At least it's small to me.
