Dave Mason - Two Hearts (1987)

He played a street festival around here a few years ago, and we were lucky enough to see him. Awesome show with an excellent backing band. He coverered every phase (From Traffic to all his solo recordings) of his career and it seemed like everyone attending knew every lyric to every song! :)

2. Just A Little Lovin'
3. Forever
4. Dreams I Dream w/Phoebe Snow
5. Something In The Heart
6. Ballerina Listen
7. Fighting For Love

Yup. That be it, ya mugger. :D You got a double t'anks for this post, my friend. :)

How about a funny tonight: Track 15 is Run Pete Run. When I was living in the hill country of VA there was a local Mom & Pop FM station that played a lot of old Bluegrass tunes. One of the tunes in their rotation was Run Pete Run.

To make a long story short, I was playing a dance party when one of the guests asked for, as he put it "the song about Pete the hound dog."

I recognized it as the track on this album and put it on next. The dancers on the floor were doing the yarking sounds along with the song. :D Then they were dancing again. :)

Hey, y'all you coon hunters. Speak to 'em Pete. (yark, yark, yark)
Man, just listen what a jaw on a dog. (yark, yark, yark)

Well the dogs are out runnin' on a Saturday night.
The boss man yellin' everything's all right.
We're gonna catch a coon and we're gonna skin 'er
The preacher man's a' comin' for Sunday dinner.

Run Pete run as fast as ya can.
Gotta catch a coon for the preacher man
Run Pete run as fast as ya can.
Gotta catch a coon for the preacher man.

(yark, yark)

Sister get the broom and scrub the walls
Gotta have 'em clean 'fore when the preacher calls.
Granny's in the kitchen a' rollin' the dough
Mama's in the living room a' scrubbin' the floor.

Run Pete run as fast as ya can.
Gotta catch a coon for the preacher man.
Run Pete run as fast as ya can.
Gotta catch a coon for the preacher man

Buddy Lee's in the tata patch a' digging up taters
Lisa's in the garden a' pullin' off maters.
Well, Jimmie's on the back porch a' shuckin the corn
Waitin' for the preacher man to toot his horn.

Run Pete run as fast as ya can.
Gotta catch a coon for the preacher man
Run Pete run as fast as ya can.
Gotta catch a coon for the preacher man

Well, boys this is one Sunday the preacher man's not gonna get that finger lickin' good chicken. He's gonna have him a big coon in him.

'Cause my #1 coon dog, Ol' Pete has got him treed.
Look at him, Raymond... a 25 pounder!
Speak to him, big man!
Listen, what a jaw on a dog
Man, look at that coon, boys
Talk to him, Pete!
Speak to him, big man!
Look at that big coon, Raymond!

Mariposa De Oro has finally been released on CD. I'm not about to pay $118.00 for it though. :D

This album brings back a lot of good memories. :)

Hank Locklin

Is Hank Locklin hard to buy? About 5 or 6 years ago I had a fellow offer me $50 bucks for a disc full of Hank Locklin stuff. All I will say is I had some on album :sqwink:

Thats an incrediable album I bought it on release day a few months ago. Dwight sounds more like Buck than Buck did

I use Dwight's cover of Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" as much as I can.

Michael Buble does an interesting cover of that too I play it at dinner sometimes

I've got a buddy who professes to "hate Country music", but absolutely loves Dwight! Go figger that one out!

Its funny how the country haters tend to love the pioneers like Steve Earle Dwight Yokum, and Randy Travis. It speaks volumes for country music

From a search at amazon, I shouldn't think so. There are several collections of his music available. :)

Jeff: Ditto here on the Buble, I'll use that when they say "no country"!:sqeek::sqeek:

Definitely enjoyed Dwight's reverent take on Buck.

Oh Lord won't you buy me,
A Mercedes Benz.
My friends all drive Porsche's,
I must make Amends.

Worked hard all my lifetime,
No help from my friends.
Oh Lord won't you buy me,
A Mercedes Benz...

House Of Blues: Janis Joplin Tribute

Never have had any trouble picking up Locklin stuff. Perhaps he was just one of those guys that never visits a record store and never buys on line. You must have just been in the right place at the right time. :sqwink:

Me too with the Buble! I often start the evening with a track or two from the recent 'Call Me Irresponsible', and if the gathering audience seem to be enjoying it, I leave it playing a little longer. Of course there was also the 'bonus' disc of Christmas songs from one of his previous albums that had a good airing through December.

I'm listening to Raul Malo 'Today' at the moment, and I think this is great. Not so sure about the new album though.....seems to be moving into Perry Como's territory........:sqerr:

Hey... Raul Malo is good listenin' with the Mavericks. And Flaco Jimenez can make that accordion sing. Nothin' like some good zydeco music. :)

Flaco and his accordion are featured on "Streets of Bakersfield" with Dwight Yoakam and Buck Owens.

Totally agree with that, buddy! It was through the Mavericks that I grew to love 'The Voice Of The Malo'.

We like a bit of Zydeco music here too. I don't really know where he sits in the pecking order, but I've got a couple of Buckwheat Zydeco albums that get a good airing now and again.
'Drivin' Old Grey' and 'On A Night Like This' are particular favourites.

Where would I be without my music........
