When it comes to weddings, most men have no clue what stuff costs?

I was listening to the radio today. There were two hosts of the show. One host is married, the other getting married this year. The married guy was busting the chops of the single guy about how much it was going to cost. The single guy "sort of" seemed to be accepting of most of the numbers that the married guy gave him.

$1700 for a DJ
$4000 for a cake
$4500 for a Videographer
$2500 for a photographer
$3000 for flowers

Now, the married guy was definitely busting chops, but the single guy really didn't know if these were possible "real" $ figures, or not. But I ask you, how clued in do you think most grooms really are? And how much of the decision making do you think men make?

Honestly, IMO, you never need a videographer. We had ours done by a guy at the TV station. We watched HALF of it one time. Fortunately he only charged us $500 including editing. I have no idea where it even is, as of today.

While I love the photographs that my guy took, they too, sit in a closet, never to be looked at again, it seems.... though we do have one very large print hanging in our family room and another in our living room.

If "I" was able to make those decisions alone, "I" would have eliminated them entirely.

I bet your wife knows exactly where that video is.... and I'll bet that it is very important to her.... I could live without video at a wedding too and agree with ya, but we are both guys.

Women are very emotional and those video's and photo's represent a tangible link to the emotions of that day....

I think you'd be very hard pressed to find a bride to be who wouldn't want those things at her wedding to keep as a memento of the best day of their lives the day that all their dreaming as a child had finally come true with their knight in shinning armor... as long as it was financially affordable to them.

Price aside though these are very precious memories and should be immortalized on film and video if possible. But. I'm just a guy what do I know?

I didn't want either at my wedding. Unfortunately I married a man whose mother was a professional florist. I was furious when she started setting up things like arches and a photographer. In fact I was so mad the word divorce was hurled before the wedding was even over.

Fourteen years later I'm glad to have those pictures and those memories. And my kids love to watch the video and make fun of my hair and my husband's cheesy moustache.
 
Well, I can only think back on my one (and only) wedding, which was late 80's:

DJ: $250 -- he didn't even want to be paid -- a friend in the industry, that helped me get started. Awesome, BTW! All vinyl.

Cake: If I recall correctly, it was about $150 or so. It is only a symbol, and we cut it with a Marine Corps sword :)

Video guy: $250 -- still have it. Hilarious to watch :)

Photo: Had a neighbor do it (good friend). Never really got to see the pics, as we split up around the time he delivered them to her. I hear they were nice though. He's a good photog, and also gave me a nice cash present, that she stole.

Flowers: Huh? They grow outside -- I don't pay for anything that grows outside. If the gals want them, they can grow them...


Venue: About $5k, including a few hours of open bar and food, and MC.

Honeymoon: About $2500-3000 -- all inclusive to St. Lucia. Went with another couple too. Awesome. Got some of my best seeds there from the cops, and hardly saw the woman :sqwink:
 
Most of the prospective grooms that we deal with know the price of the limo/party bus..because that's all they are usually allowed to pick out! :sqwink: LOL...:rofl::rofl:


Seriously, I believe that the grooms are pretty involved in the finances for the most part. Why? Because the "majority" of our clients are paying themselves and don't have Mommy and Daddy underwriting the total cost of the wedding/reception.

I need to take a break and step away from the computer (been on it most of the day...contracts, website updates, porn...the usual business day)...when I first read her post I thought it said archers and a photographer. I just assumed it was a twist on a shotgun wedding. :sqeek:
 
Was listening to a wedding planner on the radio. She said that the average cost for a wedding is $22,000. The cost for a wedding in California is $30,000

And here I was thinking folks would be stunned that it was the bride who didn't care.
