Thank You Peter Merry!

Something I've not seen mentioned (in regards to F2F meetings) is the DJ's physical appearance and poise. Let's be honest, some of us are "sweaty old guys" in the eyes of these brides. It's probably not a positive to ask for face-time in those cases.

Not saying that any of you guys are ugly, mind you.............

Agreed 100% Karl The final consultation is of extreme importance.
Steve Thank You I just took the high road and chose not to respond to Ducky and Jmac :)

Final? I say the FIRST meeting. Before any contracts are signed.

They are interviewing you & You are interviewing them. Is this the right event for you? You can learn a lot in person that you can't on the phone.

Bill;
No S***! All I said was how important the final consultation is. If you do not have a great initial consultation you won't have to worry about the final consultation :)

Ok, if we're "going there", let do it:

Spelling and grammatical errors, regardless of where they are written, will always undermind the message that is being presented.

I believe the word you wanted to use was: undermine

as an aside, you would be shocked to learn what isn't tought in elementary school any more...............

..And the word you wanted to use was: taught

Go see my ODJT Animal House Cast in Papas thread about casting a new Animal House in the pub of course.

I tried, but failed. Hank busted me. I thought about editing it to fix it, but that would be cheating.

I bought and read the book. I've suggested it to brides, I've used parts of it in pitches.

If a DJ or a bride could not find $20 worth of value out of that book, I'd be shocked. Most will find much more.

I don't know Peter Merry. Have never met him. I know some don't like him.

But if a someone they had never heard of wrote a book like that, I'd bet they'd be using the heck out of it. However, because it's Peter, they don't want to seen as being in the "worthers" camp, or supporting it In some circles, it's just as cool to not be a part of it.

The only camp I want to be a part of is common sense. If you are a bride or in the wedding business, that book makes sense. It's just not as common as one would think

Congrats Ray!! And thanks Peter for writing a great book.

I challenge someone to read that book and suggest things that don't make sense.

Most brides today cant even consider sitting down and offering song advice for their first dance much less read a novel.

Music? No. Formalities? Yes.

I'm insistent on making them feel comfortable and meeting face to face. After all, I'm screening them too. :triwink:

However, any bride that tells me she read something in a DJ book is going to get my most professional declination. If someone can't figure out what they want or what they should expect from their DJ, then they never cared to begin with. You're just an accessory/necessity at that point.

Hank, what's wrong with research. Have you read that "dj" book?...My understanding is that it is more about planning a wedding than hiring a DJ.....

Sorry, I thought we were talking about DJ procedures, not wedding planning.
I can't keep track of all the hats these authors wear.

Nothing wrong with research and like I said in my first post...
If you're selling or looking to buy something beyond the basic, it's priced accordingly.
There is no "blanket" to cover the profession that is a mobile DJ
(or whatever fancy title some want to give it).

We all have a client that fits what we offer. We all have the right to avoid those that don't fit our form. It's the negative comparison campaigning that gets my hat tossed into these rings.

Almost every $1000+ entertainer I have ever read or heard from steps on the necks of the others outside their group. If what they are selling is so wonderful, why is that?

The guidelines and suggestions in these books are fantastic tools for those that need them. I congratulate anyone of us that has success in this field.
I just don't rate success the same way some others do.

I apologize to Ray and anyone affected by the tone of my statements made here in this thread. I just felt that the other side of the coin needed some light.
