Some Cool Looking DJ Facades

And people constantly come up and lean on them.

I'm looking for facades that are not cheap and you can't lean on.

What brand(s) are you using now, Tim? (PM me this info, or hell just TELL ME in Vegas, if you want to keep it off the boards).

I spoke to Kat earlier this week, about another topic, and D.J. facades came up in conversation. NLFX are the people to see on this one. I'm probably going to investigate, myself.
 
A strip of barbed wire laid out across the top of the fascade works well to keep their cruddy little hands of the fascade.

I have no problem divulging the name, DJ Skirts. Nothing against the company at all, it's the product. Plastic. Breaks easily.

What is the warranty on D.J. Skirts, and is it possible for the end user (in this case Tim) to pay for repair(s), as you could with most other products?
 
No warranty. Never was one. At least they didn't tell me. I asked. Nope, basically thanks for buying it for $250 and see ya. No offer of anything for free. That's ok. I will know next time I want a facade.

Customer service is the KEY.

I can see that Tim's as anxious as I am, when it comes to these conventions. I've been to that airport. As small airports go, it's pretty nice.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I'm looking at facades, so I want to continue this conversation. Can you pay djskirts for repair services, or will they simply try to sell you another one?

If this question gets answered later in person, I'll try and make sure that Tim or I post here, if others are following this conversation.
 
I called DJ Skirts once because I wanted to get some scrap fabric in order to extend the length of my table skirt... when I raise my table I have about a 6 inch gap between the hem and the floor...

They wouldn't even sell me scrap or tell me what kind of material it is.... heck they didn't even offer to make a custom skirt.... seems like they missed out on some $$$s
 
My partner and I are planning on replicating one of these for our HS shows. We plan on using 1x8 pine for the framing. We are going to make 2 x 4 sections that are held together with door hinges...the type you can pull the pin out of. That way we can have a 6,8,10 foot facade depending on the set up. We'll backlight with LED pars and Chauvet colorstrips. I'll post pics for sure when were done.

Yea, please keep us updated. I am considering the table topper which is what I believe Tim uses. Have mostly heard good things about it.
 
Material for the Frames

Using my experience in the Art Business this may help those who want to build the Facades. Use stretcher bars, the kind that artists use to put on canvas paintings.
Go to http://wholesaleartsframes.com/stretcherbars/index.htm?gclid=CIKMq8bd45gCFQ9JagodNTkCeQ or http://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-heavy-duty-stretcher-bars/ to choose the material for the frames. All you have to do is pick your sizes and join together. It is cut angled ready for joining. (Use Glue and brads)
For instance, if you want to make a 36W x 48H panel, buy two 36" sections and two 48" sections. Join and voila. The wood is strong yet lightweight. If you want to see what stretcher bars look like then visit your local Custom Framing Store or Art Supply store, however it may be more expensive there.
I will suggest the Extra Heavy Duty and for large panels use cross braces.

If you really want to be creative, you can add a Ready Made frame made for oil paintings. You can also have a Custom framer build one for you. The Oil Painting frames come in the same sizes as the stretcher bars. The thing to note is that the Frame adds to the overall size as the stretched fabric on the bars fit inside of the frame. Art and framing is my forte so if you have any questons feel free to PM.

You can use white fabric with white uplights!

More than likely you can if you use spandex. Check with Ben, he has some theatrical fabric for sale.
