OK, we have some new folks here so I'll throw out some scenarios and you tell me how you would handle it. The rules are simple, don't get into a Pin match.

1. You're DJing at a wedding factory (multiple rooms and multiple events). You have a computer set up with a burner and happen to have some burnable CDs with you. You've just gotten set up. You are not carrying and music CDs. A DJ from another room comes in and tells you that he's forgotten the first dance CED for his wedding. You have it on your computer. Do you bu5rn a copy for him?

2. You are asked to DJ in a clown costume. Do you take the event?

3. You are asked to DJ at a nudist event. Do you take it? For bonus points, they ask you to DJ in the nude; do you do it?

4. Another wedding factory situation. You have about an hour before your event starts and guests have not even arrived yet. The DJ from another room has never made introductions at a wedding before and asks you to do them. The introductions are ready to go. Do you do it?

5. Your client is paying your balance at the event. Your agreement is that he/she has to pay two hours before but has up till 15 minutes after the start time to make good. You are not supposed to even set up your equipment till you've been paid. The balance is $600 (more than they can get out of an ATM). They have to pay in cash, money order, or cashiere's check. It is now 15 minutes before the event and the client only has a personal check. What do you do?

2. Not at a wedding. If teh clown is appropriate to the event then yes. Clown suit only no make up, maybe a rubber nose. The makeup may smear after getting sweaty and since I use CDs may get on the CD affecting the whole gig. Halowwen gigs come to mind.
3. Sure. Only after they sign a disclaimer releasing me from any responsibility from simultaneous puking after they see my hairy a55. Il also move my amp to the middle of my rack so I can get a nice breeze from the fan when it starts blowing.
4. No. He has to learn some time. I'll pull him aside and give him an impromtu demonstraton of how I might do it inclding lining up the wedding party.
5. My weddings are all due 2 weeks before, so I dont see this happening.

No. I work for a living. They hired an incompetent performer, they get one. If they want to hire me to do their introduction and I can properly prepare without negatively impacting my contracted event , then let's negotiate.

I would have to get back in the time machine and reevaluate why I allowed them to breach the contract by failing to make a timely final payment 10 to 14 days prior to the event date.

This actually happened to me once, shortly after I started with the computer. At that time I took Rocky's approach inregard to the legaility. I'd still do the same.

Again, this came up for me twice. The first time I declined because I thought the costume was inappropriate. The second time it was a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House and I happily agreed.

If asked again, I'd do it.

I've done several. There are less beautiful bodies at nudist events than you'd think.

I was asked at one to join in the nudity. I declined.

This has not happened to me but I did see a similar situation pop up on another board. The DJ involved made the introductions.

For me, as has been said before in this thread, the guy's gotta learn sometime but I wouldn't leave him to fail. I'd give him some pointers and be there with him while he did the intros.

In my case the balance is due thirty days before the event; however, I do give them the opportunity to pay at the event under certain circumstances in my contract. In this case written notice is required and, as stated above they have from two hours before to 15 minutes after to pay by cash, money order, or cashiere's check. I do not even load in till I've been paid.

In this case I would inform the client that they need to get the cash. I'd wait till 15 minutes afterward and execute my contract to the letter and leave.

If he can convince me that he does have a valid copy, I might. He will now owe me a favor. You never know where it may lead.

Been there! Done that! Thats where my last contract was for 4 years. Ended in May 2008 Except it was clothing optional, same difference. By Poolside I did dip into the pool while I was playing fill music during special outdoor festivals.

1. First, I'd have question no.1 rewritten in English so it was a bit more understandable. Then I'd help out any DJ who asked, in any way possible.

2. If you mean a Tux, no. If you mean a real clown costume then it depends on the event. There is not enough information here to make an informed decision.

3. Yes, oh yes, you betcha. Me nude for bonus points, no. If there is more money involved then I'd have to think about it.

4. There is no enough information provided for this question to give an honest answer. I will help out any DJ who asks, in any way possible.

5. Wouldn't happen. Payment is made prior to the event.

Interesting questions.
1. Since I've just set up and the event hasn't started yet, I would walk over with him and my usb stick and get it back once he's done with it. I wouldn't let on I had burnable cd's.

4. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that. The bride/groom or whoever hired him are expecting him to do it. I would give him public speaking pointers though.
5. I don't know. I wouldn't want to take it all down but if we had a contract, I think I would stand there looking at the person until they put what I asked for in my hand. I have done this with discounts in stores and had managers squirm until I got what I wanted, very nicely of course. You catch more flies with honey.

Not necessarily. You can burn him the disc, retrieve it from him after he plays it, and subsequently destroy it. As long as the other DJ doesn't rip it to his own computer - there's no actionable infringement.

All of the parties in question are private, and there is no functional copyright difference between handing him your laptoop to play it from, or giving him a temporay disc.

If we were talking about CDs you could obvioulsy just give him your CD and he would give it back to you after he plays it. Then you could paly the CD yourself. Burning the track out of your computer povides a temporary way to do exactly the same thing, provided the song is not being archived or retained by the other DJ.

The infringement does not come for the actions you take to PLAY the song - only from the distribution of a remainder copy. When the copy ceases to exist - so does your liability.

As for the nudist thing - I'm always getting my ring finger or some other part of myself snagged or pinched in the gear during setup. I think my insurance carriers would demand a higher premium with so much exposure.

I'm of the opinion that nearly every body looks best at least partially decorated with clothing.
