Scott, Papa and others,
Since the L1/B1 system works for your businesses, that's what matters. No one's trying to tell you different. And I think we all know that there is no honest comparison between a line array system (L1) and a conventional PA system. The L1/B1 system has a distinct advantage of doing the processing for the operator.
From what I can gather, the rest of us aren't Bose haters. Our business equipment works for our requirements. No matter which side of the debate one is on, one will find a majority in the mobile DJ biz who believe that the L1/B1 system is overpriced for what it is and what it can do.
That's not to say that the L1/B1 system won't hold its own for upscale, indoor shows. It does. Many owners of the system have proven this. I'm just sayin' that a conventional PA that's built and set up correctly can do what the L1/B1 does and more for less cost.
If a DJ company has to load an 18" sub box and amp to accompany the L1 system at a larger show, the weight saving becomes moot and the cost becomes apparent. If you're booked to run sound at a large, outdoor show and have to leave the L1/B1 system at home in favor of a headroom-heavy FOH rig, the L1/B1 is idle and isn't paying for itself.
This is just Wolfie talkin' here. If I spend 5 grand plus for a business sound system, it had better be able to shake the dust out of the rafters and push the curtains out of the windows...
and offer a sweet tone at lower volume at the same time. We have been doing just that with our conventional system for years. It goes out every time we're booked to do a show, large and small. We didn't pay 5 Gs for it.
