Rockit 5

There are only 3 skins for net books.

Is that a bad thing...? :D

Could I request...

Sure you can, I love requests. I just never play them, unless somebody tips me well... :sqlaugh:

Actually, it's pretty easy -- make a copy of one of the netbook skins, and create yer own :)

Basically you just make a new background, and change the colors of the text fields. The lists are easy in V5, because you can change that right in the program itself. The Basic Skinning Tutorial is really all you need to do that. It shows doing a list thing, but the text fields have the same stuff.

I honestly don't do custom skins, because then that's all I'd be doing, and the ROI is not very good. I only make them when developing a new version, or if I have a really good buzz going, and get inspired by looking at the Corona or Budweiser gals... :)

Rockit problem

Ok I have something very strange happening with V5. I just uninstalled it and reinstalled Rockit and it did not fix the problem. What is the problem you might ask.
When I go to the file that shows all of my music, there is no song listed and the song is listed in the artist section. I opened up V4 and it is fine. This is something new and did not happen a week ago.
Rick Any ideas

So
Title Blank
Artist has song listed

My best guess (on a late Saturday night with beer in hand), is that you are trying to view files under Computer (or My Computer if an older version of Windows).

V5 uses a threaded fast display for that by default, which uses the filename mask that is settable in the Music Library Settings. You can also change that in the Config->General settings.

But, the Computer (My Computer) part, is meant as a convenience feature, and not meant to be the way to browse or search for your music. You should use the My Library part for that, as all the tag data is already parsed, and split up by multiple criteria. :)

Rick -- check your emails, bro. ;)

Why? Then I'd have to answer them... :sqerr: :sqlaugh:

Oh wait, you sent something late at night, and I opened it early this morning, and promptly forgot about it, as I was making coffee. You need to get with my schedule dude -- call my people... :sqcool:

Anyway, if access to the log file was denied, you probably either have two copies of Rockit running on the same machine, or something else has it open. If you double-click too fast on the Rockit icon on your desktop, it may attempt to open two instances at the same time, and one will lock the log file, and the other will not have access.

Slow down your clicking finger :sqwink:

BTW, why do you have logging turned on...?

That was after a fresh install, my friend. It won't let me change any of the config files either. (Yes, I know how to change them, save and then restart. ;)) And, logging is not turned on in the config file. I just tested with a slow double-click (wth?) and it still errors.

Then the files (or folder) probably got marked read only, and the fresh install did not take properly. Either that, or you may have installed without Admin privileges.

Win 7 is a different beast than XP.

Rockit needs to be installed with Admin rights, as it creates a folder in the root directory, and requires full control over that folder, and anything underneath it.

Also, if you uninstalled the beta, then installed the release -- you need to physically remove the C:\SoftJock\RockitProDJ50 folder before doing the new install. It cannot be removed by the uninstall, because new files have been created when running Rockit. Vista or Win 7 will not allow the folder tree to be removed, when new files have been created, and possibly cached. The installer will only overwrite the files if they are newer, so they may not be newer...

Rick,

The install was the full version. I had uninstalled and deleted the trial version folders.

I just did the same again.

First run after install is fine. Second run, I get the same error.

How do I know I'm in Admin mode in Windows 7?

Trial version, and full version install to different folders -- are you sure you removed the right one...?

I'm sorta doubting it's a user permission level thing at this point, although you can go into Control Panel->User Accounts to check your status.

My best guess, is you installed to a folder that already had a previous version installed, and something is hosed up. Remove the entire C:\SoftJock folder (backup if necessary for playlists, et. al. first). Then clear yer browser cache, and download the release (please don't post details here), and do a fresh install.

BTW, stop playing so much with lights, and get focused back on the music -- otherwise, you'll grow one of them things on yer chin, like Rob and Kevin -- and that sh_t spreads... :sqwink: :sqlaugh:

I deleted any and all RockIt folders.

Okay, after removing all older version folders from C: drive and reinstalling, it appears it now works on the desktop without error. I'm going to assume that when RockIt V5 installs, it looks for V4 info for some stuff...maybe with my new install of Windows 7 (it kept the old files) it changed some file permissions, thus causing the errors. ????

Now, time to work on tweaking a few skins! Fun, fun, fun!! :) :)

Well, not sure what you messed up -- but I can't figure out a way to duplicate at the moment...

Apparently, you have a file lock on your system. It's sorta like when you try and remove a flash drive, and Windows says it can't, because something else is using it (even though nothing is).

Just a thought here, is that Rockit never closed properly, and there's still a thread running that may be accessing that file.

Shut down the computer, unplug from wall, wait 20 minutes, and restart.

You drinkin' heavily this evening?

Not yet, but it took me 7 minutes to write that post to your sorry ass, and you had posted while I was writing it.

I'll mark your comment into my notebook though, you commie bastard... And I'm gonna report you as an Obama sympathizer... :sqerr: :sqlaugh:

Btw, where do I customize the wave form? I note it is colored in some of the skins and black and white in others.

I'll have to look that up in the code in the morning -- fading quickly at the moment...

Shoot me an email, so I remember... :)

I just have to pause for the cause here. Folks, where in this industry do we find folks like Rick and our other esteemed sponsors who will spend time like this to help one single member to find utopia with a hundred dollar software? I am simply amazed and marvel at the customer service offered when in the real world, outside you have to wait for a service ticket for days.................... Thanks Rick for all you do here.
