Reworking My Large System

What did I accomplish today you ask?😊....???.............????....😄.... OK... not much.😄 Got the yards (front & back) mowed. Cleaned the kitchen... took out the trash and put the dumpsters on the curb. Then... I ran out of gas and took a nap.😄 I did put another coat of black paint on the Slant-top rack, and it's gettin' pretty close to being ready to put the components in. The rear rack is in, and I can't think of any reason why it can't just stay in. The Computer Shelf needs to be pulled back out so I can put the components in the front rack; the Denon DN-410X (mixer) and the GTD B-33 (wireless mic system). And of course I'll connect and organize the cables/wired before putting the Computer Shelf back in, and attaching the wires to the rear patch panel. Finally, the Denon MC6000 MK2 (controller) goes in, and it gets connected to the mixer and patch panel. It will take some time. It's a lot of wires and a lot to go wrong.😊 Fortunately, I made a wiring diagram in Visio, so as long as I follow it, I should be OK.😊

Tomorrow???... Probably not gonna make much more progress than today. Got plans in the morning, lunch date with the Wife, and then the grocery store.😄 We'll see if we can fit in an hour or so on this project to put the components in and wire the Slant-top rack.😊

And the beat goes on... And the beat goes on...[emoji1] Busy day today... just not having anything to do with this project. The wife was off today, and I NEVER get any work done when the wife is around.[emoji1] I WAS able to make the remaining Facade frames this evening. Now I can paint them and assemble the framework. The structures for the panels are complete too, but they also need painting before I can cover them in faux leather. Still have some work to do on the bottom rack, and I need to put the components in the top rack and wire it. It's coming together... but not tomorrow. Tomorrow it's back to my daughter's house to finish up some remodeling projects. Ain't no rest for the wicked![emoji1]

Got an email from NewEgg with sale items, and one in particular is pretty enticing...

LG 34CB88-P 34" Ultrawide QHD 21:9 Curved IPS Monitor, 3440 x 1440 5ms, AMD FreeSync, HDMI, DisplayPort, USB Quick Charge - Newegg.com

... I've been thinking about the possibility of replacing my dual 22" monitors with a single larger monitor, but had not seen the right monitor, at the right price... until now.[emoji4] It has PIP, PBP, VESA, and high resolution (3440x1440)... pretty much perfect. 5 star reviews. At $399 (sale price $449 with promo code and $50 Mail in rebate), it's essentially half price. It's pretty enticing.

As a backup, I could just keep my dual 22's (in their case) in the minivan, and get a new smaller case for this monitor. It would reduce my overall setup weight, and possibly cut a little time off of my setup time. Definitely something to consider.[emoji848]

Special price and promo code in the email I received. The message says the promo code is only available if you received the email message... not transferable. Not sure how that works, but OK.[emoji1]

Yes we need another 4-5 months of this project

LOL... You guys are gonna be SO JEALOUS when you see this reworked Large System.[emoji1] It's lookin' SO GOOD! The modifications of the slant-top rack are done. I just need to finish putting my components in and wire it up.[emoji4]

Still have some work to do on the bottom rack, but it's pretty close too.[emoji4] Gotta paint the Facade Structures and cover the Panels. It might just be too cool for you guys![emoji1]

Changing out the monitor would not exactly be starting over, since it would still be mounted on the same monitor stand.[emoji4] It would reduce the weight by more than half, though, because it would eliminate the need for the horizontal bar to which the dual monitors attach. As you may recall, the monitors were among the first discussion items in this thread... many months ago[emoji1], and I think YOU were the one who suggested using a single monitor with PIP and/or PBP. Doesn't matter... I didn't pull the trigger on the 34" monitor (as tempting as it was)... at least not yet.[emoji1] I'm thinkin' it might be better to save the monitor upgrade for next year, when I rework my Large System again.[emoji1]

No, no, no .. don't half-a$$ it .. If you change a part, tradition would dictate you start all over from scratch .. :)

I SHOULD be outside working on my project. Still much to do, and it ainna gonna do itself.[emoji1] On the other hand, it's hot out there.[emoji1] I'm feelin' lazy. Can't really do much with the Facade until I paint the frames. There's NO wind today, so painting it today would be the SMART thing to do.[emoji1]

It's raining here .. and it's race day, so Indy 500 then the Coke 600 ..

So I was just out in the garage just looking at the progress, and I gotta say, the slant-top rack looks pretty good after the last (and final) touch-up. I'm satisfied with it. I think spraying a light coat of the Plasti Dip over the Truck Bed Coating really helped. It gave the surface a little smoother feel...

... Here's a pic of the products I used for those who want to resurface a molded plastic rack or a speaker...

... I used the Satin Paint & Primer for the surfaces that were already black, just to rejuvenate them, and it made a good base for applying the Truck Bed Coating where I wanted a heavier texture. I used the Fine Textured Finish paint in areas where I did not want too much texture, and then I sprayed the Plasti Dip to get a little more of a plastic feel on those painted/re-coated surfaces.

Had a little time this afternoon, so I decided to do a little painting. Not windy today, but man is it HOT! Got the back side of the Facade frame painted black, and three of the four panels painted white. One more panel to paint and I think I'll call it quits until later this evening.

I haven't finished the height extension (high heels) on the bottom rack yet. I was looking it over and I'm not in love with what I've done so far, which is kinda why I stopped work on it and worked on the mods to the top rack instead. But now the top rack is done and I need to decide what I'm gonna do with the High Heels. I know there's a few of you giving me a hard time about the time this thing is taking.[emoji1] I'd like to see it finished too, but I also want it done right because this will be my main system for perhaps a year... maybe more. Anyway, it's not a race; it's a DIY project.[emoji1] I could probably make the High Heels look and work OK... I just can't decide if OK is OK.[emoji1]

I want to finish the painting today, though. If everything is painted, I can work on the Facade inside where it's cool. Looks like I'm gonna run out of Black Paint again. Guess it's back to the home improvement store.[emoji1] It surprises me how little actual area a can of spray paint covers.[emoji4]
