I've been out of radio for about 20 years and wondered what the 'most popular' radio program is? For music, spots/jingles, log programming, etc.?

I found a cool freeware program to trigger my songs for Wedding Party introductions.

www.jazler.com. Use the jazler show version (freeware).

Works pretty nice but I can't see where I can add cue points.

Scott Studios, Audio Vault or Enco are the big 3 for broadcast software, not cheap! About $10k per workstation.

There is one Open Source Broadcast software package that I have looked at that is every bit as powerful as the big 3, and if you aren't afraid of Linux and getting your hands dirty, take a look at Rivendell. http://www.rivendellaudio.org/

I talk to radio stations every day who are flipping formats and need a library so I have to get their automation software info. After 6 years of that, the majority are using SS32. After that, in no particular order, it's Audiovault, Prophet, BSI Simian, Enco & Mediatouch.

As far as sports teams, Click Effects is a big one. Not sure if you know Adrian Cavlan but a couple years ago he told me about something he uses that's much cheaper and something he likes better than Click Effects. If you don't know him & want me to find out for you I can.

A popular option for webcasters that might work is Sam Broadcaster. They have a DJ version too that just doesn't have the streaming function. Maybe download demos of those to see if they do what you want?

all of our Clear Channel stations use Prophet (aka Nex Gen)
we loved it so much we bought the company!
(literally)

Jim: Yes, I know Adrian, great friend. He uses Sports Sounds Pro (www.sportssoundspro.com). Great program!

I also use the other program you mentioned for Mobile DJ applications. It's called Sam's Party DJ (www.spacialaudio.com) very similar to OTSDJ with more options, about $119. Good program.

Thanks for all the posts!

Yup, NexGen is at all Clear Channel stations. Prophet then merged with RCS (the "Selector" music scheduling people) for a one-two punch.

There is a NexGen "light" system called "Player 101" that gives you broadcast quality automation for under a grand. Still a lot of money though, unless you are planning on starting your own full-time internet stream.

I agree with you Jim, I use SAM party dj and it's a sweet program I just wish they'd "snazzy" it up with some cool looking skins...In terms of looks/interface it's the equivalent of a Chrysler New Yorker that has a mercedes engine under the hood...i.e. it's powerful but not that great to look at lol

mikemerlin you should try Portable Sam :)

only in a PM - I wont post it now days because of a few...

I use SAM on my internet radio station and I had mentioned that to the designers about some skins , and in response I got a very smart alec remark that it's prime function is to work and not be pretty. The guy was pretty rude , so I wouldnt count on them doing anything for awhile.

I wont buy the program again or the updates because of the way I was treated when making a suggestion.

lol if I was back in 1980 again you guys would freak out

I was actually caught operating and illegal radio station on 105FM in mono transmitting at only 30watts
it could be at that time be heard all over the city

I had only been djing for 3 or so years

I was caught by radio inspectors, 10x cops all sitting in a mates bedroom
while he was out testing the range he could get

the transmitter was in an old steal lunch box that had a transmitter chip set to the frequency of 105.1FM

it was all great till I was taken away .... but after my mate got back wow
he got 3x months jail
I got a fine as i was under age of 18 - $40 fine ... $48 court costs

so there hows that one for ya :)

oh and still have the paper clipping and poster that was to run in the daily paper

PIRATE RADIO TO GO TO AIR

this was before we got caught as no one else had ever tried what we did

so wish I had all this software to run a radio station than back in the day

so have a nice day all
