Brace yourself.... you're about the get the predictable round of objections/negative responses from the haters, but fear not - you'll benefit in the end, as will your clients. :sqcool:

OOH! OOH! Me first!

Um, Sounds and I differ here. I don't think it's a good idea. You'll get plenty of reasons as the thread progresses, and I'm just a two-finger typist..:sqwink:

Thoughts? www.AMSEntertainment.com/albany

Basically, it states wedding packages start at $795.

And nothing wrong with that. Don't like it, keep on movin' down the line!:sqlaugh:

For every client that needs to be arm-wrestled into submission or dragged by the toenails to "recognize the value in your offering" or the justification for your price, there are 15 more that don't.

Let 'em go.:sqcool:

That would be so nice. I wish my clients understood that is not the case.

Mike

Well you and your lighting design buddies could form an "association" and try to start a "certification program" to "educate" your clients about it! Come on Mike, haven't you been paying ATTENTION?!?!?!:sqmad:

Isn't it about time you started taking what you do SERIOUSLY?!?!? SHEESH!

Oh, the heck with it. Maybe if I keep it short my fingers won't get tired.

There is realy only one concern about posting preset prices- losing business two ways:

1) The people looking for a $700 DJ may skip you, thinking that your posted price is too high and inflexible because you posted it.

Do you care? Depends. If you don't want to take less then $795- EVER- then it's no loss to you.

2) HIGHER price oriented people may skip you because they are under the misconception that more expensive is better. Some NYC bar/club DJs make $1500 a night.

Do you care? Well,.....yeah. Losing business from people MORE than willing to pay your fee is pretty much a bad thing.

I'm DEFINITELY not a GWYWer, but sometimes you have to get a read on what your perspective clients WANT to pay, not just what they are willing to pay. Sounds weird, but it's true, at least in my experience.

I've actually gotten work by quoting HIGHER than the next guy. Not because I was looking for more money, but because I had the feeling that it was the way to win- and it was.

Personally, I don't post prices, nor will I even e-mail them until I have had PERSONAL ( phone or in person) contact and have gotten a feel for them.

All of the above just my personal experience, IMHO, and all that other disclaimer stuff....

Ha! The Do you care? Sarcasm from my previous posts a while ago...Nice...

I control my business, I control my web site. I can change my web site wording at the drop of a dime. I do take suggestions from my guys. If it's a majority vote, I go with that. SD

I know what my competitors are charging. I think you all should know. I am fortunate because my *competition* is *friendly* or allies..

Even if I put down *Starting at $595* - I would get flack. Do I care? Sure..But we are not $595, so no I don't..

I don't charge 1 price. We still charge 3 tiers.

I think your price should reflect your costs of business as well as a margin of profit which you can actually build a savings on. After all, I don't have a pension plan as part of my company.

I firmly believe that Quality and Price do share an affinity, but it does not have to be law, but it does go back to perception of value.

Cost of Business has nothing to do with price, maybe profit, but not price. Do you know there are flat screen producers in China losing $50-$100 on every TV they make.

While there is a relationship with Price and Quality the catalyst in the relationship is DEMAND.

Without DEMAND the price / quality relationship can't be supported

Oh, the heck with it. Maybe if I keep it short my fingers won't get tired.

Joe, I understand what you are trying to say, but that concern is not really valid, bcause you are not LOSING BUSINESS..... you are losing POTENTIAL BUSINESS.

How do you know you are not losing business by NOT having prices on the web?

Also, by putting prices on the web, it can be a great way to pre-qualify potential business. Think of it as the same way as most of us use a date availabilty tool.

When people contact me via the web, I want them to know a few things about me first ...

1) I won't do a wedding for less than 1k
2) If I am available
3) I'm in demand

1) Actually, that was my own "Do you care?" - no sarcasm intended. I missed it in your post...:sqlaugh:

2) Yup, I'd disagree with the practice even if you charged 50 bucks. It's not about the amount. If you re-read my post, you will see that you can lose lower AND HIGHER paying customers.

A posted price ( of ANY amount) will give the impression of inflexibility to some, and a quality level ( LOW to those who equate any HIGHER price than yours to quality) to others.

It also may give the impression of being a "formula" DJ to those looking for something truly unique.

Like I said, I can change my site at the drop of a dime...

You wrote: If you re-read my post, you will see that you can lose lower AND HIGHER paying customers

No...I read your post - I think not. No offense. People who pay a low price for a DJ will find out why they are low. I'm not a low priced DJ...As a matter of fact, I'm under-priced :sqlaugh:

Ok, you've referenced the people looking for lower pricing- the LEAST important part of the post. What about those others?

And you referenced the low pricers again.

HOW do you address the loss of customers WILLING to pay a HIGHER price due to perceptions of low quality because your posted price is LOWER than they expect, and HOW do you address the loss of customers WILLING to pay a HIGHER price due to the impression given of of a formula DJ due to a posted price?

I hope this clarifies my statement...?

Don't get pissed at me, get pissed at the low ballers...I charge what I charge for a reason.

You need to answer the man's question! You are just making statements.

I don't have to do a damn thing! I'm always making statements. Whether you agree or not, is another topic. Ask me something then, don't beat around the bush!

Why are you getting so upset. Joe asked you a question and all your replies to him were statements. I too was interested in a direct answer to his question. Sheesh! Yer got yer panties all up in a wad and it ain't weekend yet! :sqeek:
