Preferred Vendor Lists.

Hate to bust your bubble but it is not just one DJ there are several here that may fall into that category.

Does anyone here have any reason why Canute cannot / should not name names? Please post your thoughts on this matter. For those that may be named, please be prepared to explain to the class why you did what you did.

Sounds like an awful lot of assumptions. Am I saying it doesn't happen? No - but again, you're not there - so you also do not know.

Do you think no one else gets these agreements? Don't twist things. Did I ever say that I was the only one? Eating with the guest is not being treated like the client. Did I ever say it was? I said I did not get treated like a vendor most likely would. Ye have lots to learn if ye thinks thats the difference in being treated like a client. I have to wonder why the DJ would eat first though - as a guest, I would find that offensive. Most guests that I know (over a 26 year period), would agree.
You take things too personal my friend, it seems that almost everything is offensive to you. Why would you as a Guest care if the DJ ate first? Would he eat all the food and leave you none? Is it than you look down on the Vendors as how some Venues do? No wonder you expect what you get. LOL

Just so that you know, I did a search for the poll I made and I am only getting "No for an answer" Since this Forums format has been changed so often over the past couple years it is hard to find answers when doing a search. I placed "Poll" as a Keyword with "ahoustondj" as author and got Zero results. Some who have been here long know I have done tons of Polls about lots of things. The search feature is flawed. It also used to be you can see all your posts page by page all the way back to your oldest post, I can't find that either. Bottom line is I don't have to prove anything to anybody. Everyone knows who they are and how they operate.

I wonder if anyone else thinks almost everything is offensive to exclusively me?

Why would you as a Guest care if the DJ ate first?

Presentation is everything my friend. Why on earth would the facility have any vendor eat before the client.

Would he eat all the food and leave you none?

Doesn't matter if he eats all the food or not. The client comes before any vendor. As a DJ, do you put the other vendors before your client? As a picture person, do you put your vendors before the client?

Is it than you look down on the Vendors as how some Venues do?

I don't look down on anyone. We're all in this together.

No wonder you expect what you get. LOL

I don't think you have any idea of what I expect nor what I get.

Bottom line is I don't have to prove anything to anybody.

If you stop claiming facts, then I agree. Otherwise understand that everything has a high chance to be accepted as opinions.

Everyone knows who they are and how they operate.

Absolutely right - and you should respect how each and everyone operates what they have.

BTW, I know you do polls about various things. Polls mean little to me. If you want me to learn something, entice me to learn it and show me facts or evidence of how it can benefit me. You may also have to explain why what I'm doing is wrong - especially if I come to the same result as you do.

I'm not twisting anything. You posted it in black and white - the way it comes across is that no one else gets this type of treatment.
See below:

Hey lots of DJs when being fed get served as Vendors. I get a reserved spot, or at least the liberty to get in the food line with the rest of the Guests, how, by asking! It is part of my agreement with the Client. I did an Italian Restaurant/Club in December for a Holiday Party, guess who got to go first in the food line, Me! I did not ask for this one but the client wanted me to be able to play music and be available for announcements. Yeh! Maybe I am just lucky!

You certainly led me (and possibly others) to believe so. See below:

I said I did not get treated like a vendor most likely would.

Being that you ARE a vendor, I highly doubt this.

What about you? Have you used the Shyt Pail Today?

Not that it really matters, but yes I have :)

Still too cold for me to clean and refurb the toilets (recall I have no heat in the 3 bathrooms). So, until I can get the lines cleaned out, and put new hardware in them -- the little bucket works fine :)

It's sorta like living at a campground, but it's far less worse than the Marine Corps, Army or Coast Guard.

The Poll I was looking for showed all those who answered the poll as far as if they just arrive and setup as told or if they do site visits and ask for and get what they want. Your answer would have resided in that poll. I don't expect you take my word for it.

I'm certain my answer would have been there - if I had partaken in the poll. My answer would have been the same as you have been hearing. I'm not afraid to ask for what I want and by the same token, I have been told that this IS where you WILL be. At that point my friend, you have no options, especially if the client agrees - regardless of how good you think you may be with negotiating.

I've also been to places that agree that you will be here .. and the next day it was all arranged and you were moved. I'd LOVE to have seen how you THINK you would have handled it. With the way you carry on, you would have been an instant blacklist.

I did not get Blacklisted.

Ok? I never said it would happen each and every time.

Jabs? I've not jabbed him once. We're having a discussion. I've not been disrespectful nor degrading neither.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I like Canute. However, I don't like nor expect to be forced and expected to believe something is fact or the 'right way' without it being backed up. Like Canute, I also worry about what information newbies will see and adopt from here. They also have common sense and ways of doing things that may be right. How will we ever know if they won't bring it up because they do not want to partake in a thread conflict?

Got a pretty much blank page and this "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." when I clicked on your link."

Still works for me .. must be linked to my user ID. Go to the main screen .. select advanced search under the search box .. select search types "All types" .. keyword poll .. user .. ahoustondj.

I remember two instances, the last one was at the Hyatt Regency Downtown. They placed two big Christmas trees on either side of the stage where my speakers were going to be. I moved them sideways out of the way. I also unplugged them from the Circuit that I was supposed to have. I went back to play there for the same Client at their Christmas Party.

Another time it was at another big named Hotel. They moved everything around and there was NO SPACE for a DJ period and to top things, the Stage was moved to the opposite side of the room. There was also no where near for me to plug in. I was still using Vinyl back in those days which did require some extra tables to put your crates. They acted like they did not want to help to make space. I told them that they would have to be the ones to explain to the Client when she arrived why there was no music. They were also supposed to leave two large Plants on either side of my speakers to kind of hide them and they were nowhere to be found. All these things were agreed upon at a Site visit WITH the Client and I. After they moved back the stuff and I set up minus the plants, the Client arrived. She was furious that the plants were not there and had the room rearranged without notifying her or me and went off on the Banquet Manager. They finally found the two plants. I just took a backseat and laughed. Needless to say, the next time I went back the Manager no longer worked there.

I must say this. As far as I have experienced in Houston, it is only if the Venue is the Client that they are the ones who can Blacklist you. If a Client (Someone else) hires you, they can't prevent you from coming in and doing your job. The reason for this is a contract has been made with the client and you become part of the Client's entourage. If they prevent you from coming in and you showed you arrived prepared to do your performance then you are off the hook and they will be responsible for damages from both the DJ/Band and the Client if there was no music/performance. Y'all need to come to Texas. We don't wear our britches that tight where it gooses you and causes irritation!
BTW there are always Exceptions, if it is a Private Club for members only or a residence then it would make a difference and one can be blacklisted at those places.

Canute - how long have you been playing? I'm certain you have run into more than 3 examples. Also, I'd like other people from TX to weigh in on this issue. One person from TX does not equate to the experiences of all - we saw how that worked with the seceding story.

There you go on the blacklist wagon - you yourself said, just yesterday, that you knew you could be blacklisted - and would not work there. Ugh!

I did that and can't find anything from 2007 and only a few from 2008.
