Sorry for your loss!
I will say that I load, and unload my vehicle EVERY WEEKEND THAT I HAVE A GIG. I use my 2011 Chevy Traverse for events, and vacations, and to take the family out to dinner...THAT IS IT. ....Now my wife blew the motor in her 2009 Chevy Malibu...so she is driving the Traverse to work for the time being.
I basically did things oppositte. Instead of buying a vehicle solely for the DJ Business. I opted to buy a around town daily beater car. It's a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer. Rusting wheel wells. Little 14 inch tires. It's a cheap around town car that runs pretty darn good. It burns a little oil and I have to add a quart around the 1500 to 1900 mile mark after an oil change. I use it to drive to work, and take some door dash deliveries when I am bored and want some extra money.
The Traverse get's loaded typicaly on Friday night. If weather is terrible Friday night, then I load it Saturday morning. I do my gig on Saturday. Then I unload it back into storage on Sunday...usually around Noon or 1 or so every Sunday after a gig...like clock work. Very rare to book Sundays any more, but when I do, the Traverse will simply wait until Monday evening to get un loaded back into storage since I work Mondays now.
I would not leave equipment in my vehicle for long because over time that wears down your suspension. Also, at least in my area, I don't want to invite a break in into my vehicle. The Traverse stays in the back yard and it has an alarm on it, but that does not mean much. I have seen people sleep through their alarm going off, and theives stealing stuff. A group of thieves who know what they are doing and are quick can liquidate your vehicle within 2 minutes and be driving off. They usually do these things between 3 and 5 a.m. when you are likely to be in the deepest of sleep.
...I pay about $200 a month for a 10x15 with insurance at a local public storage facility. I don't have room in my house to place my equipment, and if I did, it would be in the basement. That is a slim flight of stairs to contend carrying equipment back up and down before and after every gig!
