Wish i had a garage...i would definitely leave stuff loaded most of the time... im worried about the dampness caused by the freezing temps around here effecting my moving heads...controller....powered speakers ...etc....so i never leave them in there very long...also worried about possible warping of my dragon frontboard...so i bring it in as well...

I can't speak for the rest but so far so good with the powered speakers and it's -25 here today. I will say if anyone's still using CD's warm them a bit before playing them I learned the hard way ;)

You have it reversed cold is dry and hot is usually humid. That’s why you run a dehumidifier in the summer and the air conditioner to remove the moisture in the air so you don’t feel so hot and muggy. We have to run a dehumidifier in our basement but the garage is always dry. I’ve sold off stuff that’s been stored in the garage since the 80s. Everything was still in good condition.working, so that was over 30 years of hot and cold Cycles. You just have to that the temperature stabilizes before you use the equipment.

The one thing I looked into was adding on the second garage next to the current one but my property wasn’t wide enough. I ended up having a shed built which matches the house. The other option was putting a one or two car garage in the back. But that would’ve increased our taxes and take a big chunk of the backyard. My cousin and Virginia have a 2+ garage with electric, phone and an upstairs. Now that’s sweet, she said men want to see the garage before the house.

I like the idea of having a trailer , leave everything in it when not in use, only have to unload/once per gig vs two, and I have no issue backing up trailers. But, I also like the idea of a van , both have their pros/cons .

meeting with the salesman tomorrow afternoon...Whisper cleaned out her can and dug up the pink slip... i will keep u informed

allready designed up some car magnets for it if i get it...

Sorry to hear about the wifes Grandpa but congrats on the wheels

What did you pay?

First and foremost he gave me 3 grand on whispers 2009 Subaru impreza with a trunk crunched in so that ya have to bang on it like Fonzie to get it to open ...i was quite surprised at that...lol....then he came down from 25 grand to around 19 on the van... Thought that was beyond fair...

The thing i love is the huge front windshield...its like driving a mini RV...lol

Thanks so much...she had a real tough day yesterday... her annoying sister (only local relative here) came over and spent the day....we will all be heading up to NY thursday i guess. Honestly...from a selfish standpoint...when i heard he was going downhill i hoped it might happen this week... its one of my last free weekends to make the trip with her before my gig season begins to kick in... i know thats a horrible way to think...but in order to be with her and support her it really needed to be now...

Nothing cold about that. Now what's cold is when you actually DO something to help the timing work out. (shudder) ;)

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss!

I will say that I load, and unload my vehicle EVERY WEEKEND THAT I HAVE A GIG. I use my 2011 Chevy Traverse for events, and vacations, and to take the family out to dinner...THAT IS IT. ....Now my wife blew the motor in her 2009 Chevy Malibu...so she is driving the Traverse to work for the time being.

I basically did things oppositte. Instead of buying a vehicle solely for the DJ Business. I opted to buy a around town daily beater car. It's a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer. Rusting wheel wells. Little 14 inch tires. It's a cheap around town car that runs pretty darn good. It burns a little oil and I have to add a quart around the 1500 to 1900 mile mark after an oil change. I use it to drive to work, and take some door dash deliveries when I am bored and want some extra money.

The Traverse get's loaded typicaly on Friday night. If weather is terrible Friday night, then I load it Saturday morning. I do my gig on Saturday. Then I unload it back into storage on Sunday...usually around Noon or 1 or so every Sunday after a gig...like clock work. Very rare to book Sundays any more, but when I do, the Traverse will simply wait until Monday evening to get un loaded back into storage since I work Mondays now.

I would not leave equipment in my vehicle for long because over time that wears down your suspension. Also, at least in my area, I don't want to invite a break in into my vehicle. The Traverse stays in the back yard and it has an alarm on it, but that does not mean much. I have seen people sleep through their alarm going off, and theives stealing stuff. A group of thieves who know what they are doing and are quick can liquidate your vehicle within 2 minutes and be driving off. They usually do these things between 3 and 5 a.m. when you are likely to be in the deepest of sleep.

...I pay about $200 a month for a 10x15 with insurance at a local public storage facility. I don't have room in my house to place my equipment, and if I did, it would be in the basement. That is a slim flight of stairs to contend carrying equipment back up and down before and after every gig!
