Sorry if it sounded like I was calling you out. Not my intention at all. I was just remarking to what you said, that's all.

And I always stick by the idea that a dj should use what works for them. You will never see me get into a debate about Bose or Mac... I don't listen to dj's, I listen to my clients. Other dj's don't pay my salary, nor do they pay my mortgage or my kids college tuition. I do my own thing. I respect other dj's opinions but I am just not gonna get into any debate.

Some hate Bose and some hate Macs... Great! They don't have to use them. They don't have to buy them.

Also, and perhaps more importantly, who am I to say that Bose is over priced for what it is? I didn't design it. I personally don't put a price on the relationship of driver size to cost of the cabinet. I know what sounds good/great/fantastic to MY ear. I know what I think MY clients will like. That may be 100% different than what you think. I absolutely respect that.
For me I don't hate Mac. I just don't see spending that kind of money whrn what I have works great and for a much cheaper price.

Some even claim because it's more recognized that you should DJ with a Mac. Does it really matter? Will it make you a better DJ? Of course not. It's not what you use all the time but knowing what to do with it. You can have the very best and still suck. Glad you like the purchase and like it was said for that price it should sound good.

No, I agree 100%. Use what works for you. But, when people say they don't like Mac, 99% of the time, they mention something about the cost. All I can say is that thank GOD our brides don't think the same way.

I like using higher-end, better gear (IMO). Makes me stand out.

No debate from me. My kids use PC's and I still love them. :-/

Glad you found what works for you.

But, I think everyone should do things exactly like me. I thought I was clear when I said the model 2's were the way to go.

Just kidding:). I hope they are exactly what you are looking for.

Model II's are 500 watts total, including the B2. The F1's are 1000 watts per speaker, or 4000 watts total. HUGE difference.

Is that Jig-a-watts? Watts are almost meaningless with today's digital amps .. the F1 tops probably pull 40w for the 8 2" drivers and maybe 150 for the 12" .. in fact, the 812 spec sheet shows the power supply rated at 200w max .. so anything above that is coming from some caps. And I'm sure it's sufficient for the purposes.

I'm curious as to how you found the watt ratings. I tried researching it before and was led to believe it was a secret that Bose wouldn't let anybody have.

I personally don't like the looks of them they look big and top heavy compared to my evox 8
I won't disagree too much since I have the 8s as well .. but I have no issues with the L1s ... I think they are pretty slick looking.

You would have to see them in person and hear them in person... That's how we should judge and compare all speakers.

I have .. I looked at both the L1 II and 1S before I bought the EVOX. I also listened to the F1s.

I liked the 802's and I like the look / design of the F1's. How does it stack up against something comparable in the bigger speaker world remains to be seen. I think Bose has always been designed to excel in the vocal range / environment (such as a seminar) and for a small live concert (on a stage).

There is no doubting that the Evox is an incredible speaker but we are ALL biased to what we use.

If you have not heard the Bose, give them a listen. You will be impressed. Will it be better than the speaker system YOU currently use... NEVER. Biases will be biases.

Of course - I picked what I have because...it's the best! LOL

I got the yamaha 600i stagepas for ceremonies - reviews are amazing and it's great. So why not get other yamaha speakers? (DXR)
I have small EV subs - like them. Need bigger ones and don't like bandpass..so the big EV was a logical choice.
Heard the Bose L1 (or some variant model) and the sound is fine to me, it's easy to transport. Cost..since you gotta buy pretty much all at once is a deterrent. And too often the wide dispersion makes it too loud (for me, for comfort) behind the booth, at least every time I'd been around it but once.

Would I like a pair? Maybe.

Would ONE L1 be a good choice? Seems bose suggests you only need one...they list one as being able to handle a crowd of 300 people...so yeah, one and portabilty/price begins to recede big time.

I think the F1's are like normal speakers - they suggest you buy a pair, right?

The sound levels behind the L1 is a tremendous boon. What you are hearing is pretty much what is being projected. As the L1 is supposed to be set up behind the source and have at least a 10' separation (in stereo) between a pair of them (or 20' separation in mono), if the volume is uncomfortable and invasive to the performer, you can bet your bippy it's not comfortable for the guests either.

Because of 24 drivers rather than one, two, or three in traditional conical speakers (any model that is not a line array), the audio fatigue levels are virtually eliminated. After an hour or two of being pounded by a conical speaker system, ones head hurts, there's a feeling of the need to escape the room, perhaps even a ringing in the ears. Not so with the L1. While this is a huge benefit in favor of a line array (and specially the L1), the danger is the performer raising the volume unnecessarily. I warn/advise/tell/demand every customer to leave the room every twenty to thirty minutes, particularly later in their gig, to leave the room for 30 seconds then return. The first thing they'll do it turn the volume down because remaining in the room and the non-fatigue factor seems to cause performers to raise levels.

I appreciate what Bose says about 300 with one L1, and if I were a live musician with a seated audience, it would indeed. A mobile DJ in a hip-hop, edm, raucous dance situation with the traditional too small a dance floor jammed right in their face with tables spread out in a 150' x 100' room, I would not go that route unless it's an emergency, or if I were on an 18" -24" riser.

The F1 is a front-of-house system. It too has an 8 speaker adjustable line-array however it's horizontal dispersion is 100 degrees versus the 24 speaker L1 180 degree. The F1 array drivers are adjustable. The L1 array is 250 watts, the F1 array is 500 watts. The L1 B2 bass module (or a pair of B1 bass modules) is 250 watts. The F1 12" bass driver is 500 watts. These numbers are the F1-812 standing alone, tripod mounted. Now add the F1 Subwoofer if bass is your thing, adding a pair of 10" drivers at 1000 watts.

Keep in mind, the F1-812 is extremely powerful and hearty all on its own. The F1 Subwoofer turbocharges bass response if turbocharging is your thing.

The F1 system is FOH thus ideal for traditional band or DJ. The L1 must be thought about as being designed originally for live musicians with us DJs having adapted them for our use. Remember please, the L1 was designed for EACH band member to have their own system directly behind them. DJs have made them FOH. It is therefore not quite kosher to gripe about a product when using that product incorrectly. With proper training and guidance, the L1 system can be awesome. Regrettably many folks who bought from on-line or big box stores never got any training nor the right advice.

Cap, correct me if I am wrong... the F1 812, while it has 100 degrees of dispersion, if you have a pair them, you are now at 200 degrees with proper separation between the two cabinets?

Sorry DJ Magic Moments, each speaker has 100 degree. The combination does not open it up to 200 degrees. When separating properly (to eliminate cancellation - 10' in stereo - 20' in mono), there will be overlaps. With two, you are creating wider 100 degree dispersions.

Not a problem. It holds true with speaker power ratings. Folks think because they have two speakers at 1000 watts each, they have 2000 watts of power. No they don't. They have two 1000 watt speakers spread apart. The only way to make a 1000 watt speaker a 2000 watt speaker is to replace the amp with a 2000 watt amp.
