A few weeks ago I made the mistake of using my speaker "poles" in between my Eliminator Subs and Eliminator Mains to raise them up and to be able to swivel them to a targeted area early in the evening.

I'm out in the garage trying to remove them....I'm using an adjustable pipe wrench and they are barely budging.....

Lesson learned....never, ever use them again...

That's the story of your life. Always having trouble with your pole.

Apply some heat with a torch or trigger butane lighter. I hope you put a rage around the pipe before applying the wrench (I know you did).

LOL....The bane of old men...Pole trouble....:triwink:

Used a rag the first time, but now I just don't care if I strip the paint off of them.....:triwink:

PS: I'm not allowed to play with fire...it's in my parole agreement...:sqwink:

Put a damp towel in the freezer for a couple of hours. When it starts to freeze up, take it out and wrap it around the base of the pole. Don't let it touch the top hat. A strong twist and pull up should loosen it!
The coldness will cause the metal on the pole to contract!

And, you want to hide all this knowledge in a sub forum! :triconfused: :triwink:

1 out (of the sub), by the force of brute strength.

2nd one (in the other speaker) is jammed in quite nicely. I'm applying a cold compress to the "pole" as I type.

I don't care if I mark 'em up and or ruin them...they're history after they are removed. :trimad:

Argghhh, the second one will have to wait. I've got the subs free of poles and don't plan on using the Eliminator mains as the ZX5s will pull that duty.

I'll attack that last one on Monday....:triwink:

Turn the speakers upside down spray a little WD-40 around your pole then work your pole back and forth while pulling.....

That sounds dirty.... ;)

I've got some "joy gel"...will that work?:tritongue::triwink:

If you apply heat to the pole it (the metal) will expand and become tighter!

Yup.... and when the heated area cools, it will contract inside the stand cup.

You may use a heat gun or handheld hair dryer for this. Try it and see.

Kirby,
Next time you want to use the poles, yes they are needed sometimes ;) use some lubricant (I use some 3 in 1) just have a rag handy to clean up the cup and pole after removing them. This will save you a lot of headaches.

Or in my case, "ankle aches!" I screwed up my right ankle big time trying to lay them down on the ground and "attempting" to push them apart. After many chiropractic visits, soaking the ankle, etc. I'm almost able to walk without pain again....

The heat will spread faster to the top hat than cold would. After heating, when everything cools down, it goes back to its original size and still stuck. You want temperature to affect only one or another of the metals, preferably the pole.

It does, and you posted it in the MORNING....

This would be my method as well.

WD-40 works way better than K-Y...:tritongue:

Let 'im be Joe. Its a Hillbilly thang! Thank God he did not mention axle grease!:yoBiggrin::yoBiggrin:

Are your poles steel or aluminum?

Steel poles are better for heavy cabinets like EV because the aluminum poles will creep and deform under a heavy load. That is probably why they are stuck.

If you have steel poles - check to see if the ends of the pole have been flanged and made thinnner - cut that section off and mill the end to prevent it from deforming lik ethe aluminum while in the top hat.
