Okay, so Hank has come up with some graphic logo ideas for me to use and pay for. So now I need some feedback.

Let's face it, his work is good.

Is my idea for a logo good?

The BW images may be used for embroider, stickers, and general logo.

The city or colored ones may serve as one side of a business card.

I'm happy with his work, what do you think of the general idea of the logo?

I market to brides and schools. I like simplicity and clean lines. I'll list them in the order I like them.

The KC skyline will be used on a business card or pamphlet etc.

IMHO, 1 looks way to cluttered. It looks like Japanese if you take a quick glance at it (words have an edge and go in different directions). This can be hard on the eyes with reading, and makes me want to look away from the logo. I like having logos carry the slogan, but in this case, it is on the wordy side.

2 is better, but it will really turn into 3 when you are doing polos and embroidary.

4 is the winner for me. I like the embossed edge, and the transparency of the logo. This might work well on the website, not sure about the wedding market. Definitely screams corporate and production. The logos feels like professionalism and simple. However, I don't feel the energy or elegance. I guess the feel would depend on the target market you are going after. Once again, this will look more like 3 when you are doing polos and embroidery.

Anything under 4 does not seem as thought provoking as the previous logos. Overall, they are great.

I like the skyline one as well.
but I dont think that logo explains what it is you DO!

the first one with KANSAS CITYS SOUND SOLUTION solves that problem,
but there's a lot going on in a small space.

for a printed brochure, I'd use the skyline ad, but add something similar to KANSAS CITYS SOUND SOLUTION. Of course, even that phrase is not specific enough for me.

for a embroidered logo, keep it simple. theres no need for a sales pitch on a jacket or shirt.

great work, Hank!

I like each for different reasons but knowing JT I see them all as an accent to who Mr Nichols is. You have to see some of his pictures he has posted to see how fitting they are to him. Excellent work speaking JT Nichols Hank!!!! I prefer number one as it makes you want to find out more though easily describing what it is that JT does. Nike has a swoosh that has really nothing to do with shoes or sports per say. These logo's are much more. I like the cityscape one the least as its a bit overkill in my DHO, but for the intended purpose it shouts elegant nightlife.

One thing I've noted about logos, is they don't HAVE to explain what you do -- they just need to catch a customer's eye.

Just look at some that almost everybody know:

ATT
CNN
Federal Express

As long as you can catch a potential client's eye, then you have time to explain exactly what you do. If it was a business card or brochure, I would want the front to captivate, then have all pertinent info on the back of the card, or the inside of the brochure. The only thing the front has to do, is to get them to pick up the card or brochure...

The skyline one is my fav, BTW :)

yes!
but there's a big difference between huge national companies and a local kareoke guy. those companies were well known BEFORE anyone became familiar with their logo's (which they also change every now and then)
I just was thinking about personal experience.
the company name is Gold Plated Productions...
but if you were to do a search for a DJ company...the name would not come up. I think the logos Hank designed DO catch your eye, but if someone saw the logo alone on the side of a truck, or on a billboard, it wouldn't register.

That is the job of the one doing the branding, not the designer of the logo.

I've spent years, and hundreds of thousands of dollars branding my corporate name. If you saw a car drive by, with SOFTJOCK on the side -- what would you equate that with?

My guess, is that you would think of the hippie dude, who writes DJ software ;) :)

It takes time, money and effort, to brand a company name, and/or logo. The logo can make it easier in the long run, but it still needs to equate to a name...

Personally the one that jumps out at me the most is number 8. It is simplistic and the addition of the gold satin give it an elegance that to me would be atractive to the more upscale client!

Dang guys....excellent ideas and feedback from each of you.

First of all, sorry no women and no beer, but a good handshake if we met in person.

OK, in reference to what the logo sais about what I do, I try to sum it up right in my website name. KCDJ

In reference to the gold background, that was a good point. Maybe shoot that on a super elegant high end type of brochure or on my wedding portion of my website.

Yes, I agree the "c" and "i" in productions is a bit confusing, but so am I. Its stands out as being a bit to "future electric" like a video game or something, but I can live with it because the truth of the matter is that logo was created a long time ago in a galaxy far far away and Hank is polishing the turd.

Clean lines vs. shadow....YES for embroider, cheap stickers, etc. I like the shadow in print however because its looks less cheesy. Both variations can be used independent of each other.

Let's see Sarge....do I know how to do Photoshop? Nope, I'm best at poopy diapers and DJing right now in my life. I'd love to have half the talent Hank has especially in the department of timeliness. Funny comment though brother...

I can alter the "C" and "I" if needed. However, this logo is a rebuild of Jeremiah's existing logo. It needed to be reproduced for hi-res and reproduction value.

(much like I did with Kirby's logo a while back)

I'm ok with it really. Its kind of like someone said earlier in the thread, it gets them looking at it. It's unique and good....If you think it needs a tweak go for it. I'm happy either way. But if something about it is holding YOU back, then by all means artist, let er rip. I'm sure I'll love it brother
