My new DJ box project...

Very nicely done, Hank. This really gives me some great ideas on a box that I've been trying to work out in my head for awhile. I have a few more pieces of gear involved since I run an active system, but I think with some additional tweaking it could turn out very well. Thank you for taking the time to show us your creation.

Hey Hank, nice Rack! What was your final cost. I'm thinking of using something similar for my new face off game show I'm making. I was just going to use a large CD carpeted case and retro fit it. So I'll see which works best.

I came in at $165 with a two day build. I would strongly suggest it. I really don't care for those tall DJ boxes. I wanted something custom and that I could see (and be seen) from behind.

It usually takes someone behaving unusually or in the spotlight to parody. It's tough nowadays. We need some controversy around here!

I'm surprised that it cost that much. I would have guessed $75 - $100.... and I may have tried to build one at that price. But at $165, well, my skills are so bad, that I would probably have it look like crap, and I would have wasted all that money.

Yours looks excellent,though.

Well, I guess you're right Chuck because I included the little extras I purchased.

*Rubber no-slip matt
*Power Strip
*Industrial Strength Velcro
*Heavy Outdoor Carpet (not speaker carpet)
*Right Angle Power Cord
*Right Angle Audio Connectors
*Hinges, Hasps & Corners

I'm sure you could build one. It's basic measuring and straight cuts. It looks harder than it is.
 
Hank does your grey case match the speakers? I too built a coffin and case for my amps yrs back in a cabinet shop and I also used well it was auto carpet I bought by the yard. More durable for sure.

I was thinking you being the design guy surely would have done it in black if your speaks were also black. Its a graphics and OCD thing for me lol.

That's why I recommended a plate over the IEC plug.

Well I guess you did... I was so alarmed in reading your suggestion that I didn't finish reading it. My apologies, but I still feel this is a very poor decision. In a pinch, you may take the cover off, lose it, and think nothing of it, and then is when you'll get into real trouble. Best method is to never go down that route. A sure fire safety measure that keeps you out of trouble.
 
I used the new case all weekend and guess what?

It turns out that you would have to be some kind of "Jerry Lewis" to kick the the plug out of it. In fact, if someone were to pull the plug. I'd rather it come out than take the whole box crashing down to the floor. I won't accept the "rogue kid" facter either. What's the cord on your case vs. the one in the wall. If someone is going around pulling plugs out of things, then that's that.

The bottom line is, this works for me and I couldn't ask for more than that.

OK Hank need to come back and answer a few questions man. I went to home depot and asked for PVC Tuff Board and they looked at me like I was oughta my mind. Is that the actual name of it? I am going to follow in your foot steps. I may just bu 1/2 inch plywood msheets and rip to length
