okay but if you recessed the plug it would be protected and again totally out of sight. Then the connector could be CHARTREUSE (sorry Joe had to give shameless reference to you) and no one would know the better.
We're in America -- we don't do euros, or liters, and all that silly sh_t
We have 2 prong plugs, 3 prong plugs, gallons, and quarts of Moonshine

Well, if I decide to get recessed plates and go with the PwerCons, my build will be delayed. I was going to knock it out this weekend.

BTW, I found a locking IEC plug, but it's blue as well.
EIC vs Power Conn:
Do both!!! Definately use the power con on the exterior of the case and definately use a 90 degree cable. Make sure you always store the cable in the case instead of a seperate wire box. If they are always together you shouldn't have a problem.
As a form of backup, wire an IEC plug as well. You can either flush mount it on teh case as well or just tuck it inside the case. That will be your backup. Obviuosly, you have to make sure you never plug both in as the same time. To prevent anyone else from doing this you can use some electrical tape or if you are using the screw on type, simply make a small plastic plate and screw the plate over the plug using the same screws that you would secure the plug. If you end up in a pinch, someone always has an IEC cors hanging around somewhere and a screw driver.

I stopped by my local Home Depot and the Tuff Board is a standard item in stock. Lots of different sizes and lengths and you should find it near the plywood, 2 x 4 section etc.

Im in Canada Eh, and we cant make up our mind weather to follow European standard or the states... We always call them euros, you call them anything else and the roadies look at you stupid...

Well, I finally got started today. Thanks for all the input. I should let you know that I decided to go with a simple IEC receptacle and a right angle cord.
Okay. So first I cut and put together my Tuf Board base. This material is sturdy and at least 30% lighter than wood. I was pleased when I lifted the assembled unit. I have some 1/4 luan for the bottom.
Now, for the carpet. I am placing much of the carpet with spray adhesive, but for a good solid base, I will be using a commercial grade spreadable one.
I cut my stock to size, flipped it over and glued the base in the center.
Using the spray adhesive and a box cutter, I arrived at this.
(The cut outs are for USB port and CD tray access.)
A $5 welcome mat flipped over and cut, makes a heck of a liner for the bottom. I also added the plastic corners.
Installed a USB hub and cooling fan in the center bay.
I should be done tomorrow. I'll post more pics.

That's the stuff. Usually where the decking and fencing things are.
No, but I've been using it for the past few years without issue. It's basically serving as an extra port to power the coolong fan.
Update #2:

I wrapped some luan in that "no-slip" rubber you put under rugs. This will stop my trackball from moving.
I wrapped the other side in carpet so the male Velcro on the mixer will stick.
Also installed two wire ports.
I hinged a flap for the back that extends about an inch over the closed laptop.
When I open the laptop, the flap goes up as well.
Dry fit everything and ready to wire it.
I'm very pleased. Here's some shots. The cover tomorrow and I'll be good for the weekend!
