We are not debating so far everyone is in total agreement on the matter!:sqwink:

My post on the subject was to simple correct the misinformation already put out on the subject of 3 and 4 way systems!

I don't think this correction was needed in a topic started by a guy just braggin' on some new equipment he got...

That was my point, not saying I disagree with your assesment of what is a true 3 or 4 way system... just thought that it really didn't belong here....

Maybe a new topic for sure.... but let's let Keith brag a gloat a bit first.

No harm no foul, btw:sqwink:

Rob,

Again, my post was not a detriment to anyone's opinion or post on the subject of the gear in question and I am certainly happy for anyone that has made any purchase they are pleased with regardless of the manufacturer of said gear.

I was only correcting the misconception of what a true four way system was, This misinformation was not posted by me so I certainly didn't bring it up in this thread.

So far it has not been debated, it appears that the purpose of my post is however becoming the debate, but that was only from your position....:sqwink:

Ya... well.... well... my Bose is taller so there!:sqwink:

Kat,

I have a wedding on the 28th. If I remember, I'll bring my hard hat with me for the pictures...:sqlaugh:

Wow... I can't believe I missed this thread. In the first post, Keith quotes a bunch of my ramblings to justify his Dynacord purchase. Glad to help, my compadre. :)

And here I am, a preacher for Carvin passive pro sound all these years.... lovin' big, beefy amps and big, heavy speaker cabinets. Walls rattle and the dust falls out of the rafters. The bass sounds like one of those souped-up car stereos coming up the road. The mid-highs can be heard a mile away. And it's all made right here in the USA.

Now I'm promoting them little, teeny breadbox Dynacord cabs? Holy horse chit, Batman! What next??

;)

Hey... Jon only pimps the Dynacord rig because he hasn't heard our Carvin system in tri-amped mode yet. I'll convince Jon one of these days. Well, Jon has heard it over the cell phone but that doesn't do it justice. If I can get Jon to a dance party, I'll show him what a real mobile FOH is. It's got a sweet tone and it pushes the curtains out the windows. :D

But I digress. Keith, I'm happy to hear about your equipment upgrade. I've read good reports on the tone and range of Dynacord systems. It's too pricey for this old dog but I'm glad you are happy with it. That's what matters. :)

I was hoping you DIDN'T notice. :sqembarrassed:

All the same, I have always respected your opinion and choice in rigs.

As a young man, I used to smudge the color off my Carvin catalogues from flipping through them so much and dreaming...

Is OK, Keith. I'm happy to help. :)

Fred my good friend you know why I chose the trimmed down system that sounds as good as most FOH rigs I would love hearing tri powered Carvin my Cousin used a single set of their speaks along with Carvin amplification and even in a two way system tops and subs it boomed pretty well. I will have to check it out at your place one day. Maybe an annoying picnic in the future.

Maybe one of these days I will grab a set but the price is way out of my range.

I thought the same thing. One day Ben brought a system, set it up and told me to do what I wanted with it, go ahead, try and blow it up, and he left the building. I hammered on the system very hard that night. Ben will tell you that we (Ben and I) have 2 completely different definitions of what "loud" is.

After using the system, I agreed it sounded good and went loud. but not THAT much better than what I had, not enough to spend the money on it.

However, next weekend I setup my rig and you know what happened? I realized that the Dynacord system really was THAT much better, and worth the investment. It took me about a month to sell off my old stuff and buy that Dynacord system from Ben, and I've personally never regretted it, although my savings account cursed me for a while.

Now that I've had it for a year, I'm happy to say that I have had more people come up and compliment on the quality of the sound than I can remember. Not only the general public, but also people that really know and have experienced a lot of different systems. It happens at almost every event still, people come in and they are just floored at the sound quality and output of the Dynacord equipment.

Guys, you are killing me......must resist spending more money on sound equipment...must resist....:sqwink:

Well, this has got me to wondering what Ben considers to be loud. :)

I consider loud to mean I'm wearing ear plugs like I do at work on the factory floor. I wore ear plugs religiously when I did school dances. Now that's loud.

The most anyone can do is push a given FOH system to the limit. The true test is bass-heavy material, pushed to just below clip for hours on end. If it's near clip and still not loud enough for your audience, you don't have enough PA. :)

cclark65,

It's good to know that others notice the sound quality at your events.

To me that's just going to be a bonus because I'm freakin' estatic with it!

Would you care to share which system you have?

I have hesitated to do that, only because I don't DJ anymore, I do live sound only, although some DJ's have rented me for some of their bigger events, I provide the production, they provide the entertainment.

I have an XA2 system, and I just purchased 2 more subs and 2 more tops to add to it.

Good Gawd! That is a 18k system. I would rent you for each gig that required that system because there is no way in hell I would spend that much for one rig. It must sound sweet as hell though.

Well, really it's a 34k system (retail price, but who pays that?!) now with the extra cabs, but that's not really the point.

The point is that I made enough in the year to pay off the system and now I've expanded.

Not only has the Dynacord system helped me improve the quality of sound, but it's also gained me a lot of gigs that are more corporate or "upper crust" type of events, just because the system is so clean sounding and looks very professional.

Positive word of mouth is the ultimate compliment, and word does get around when you've got a good system and know how to run it professionally. Clean setup + clean sound + professionalism will get you a ton of gigs, and when it gets to that point, you can pretty much name the price (within reason of course) and they'll just agree because they know they are getting a top quality production.

And to quote you again, I want to go in the direction of the sweet sound now.

I just did a production in the local opera house, which is a near perfect room for live shows as it was built back in 1906. Definitely NOT designed for amplified systems. Here is what the touring engineer had to say about the sound and the room. (edited to only include relevant information to this post)

" I was able to mix an entire show without the use of a graphic equalizer, typically a critical tool in the sound guy's toolbox. "

Yea, the system I have is really smooth sounding. The only thing i would love to see is a 3k to 5k filter in the amps, maybe sidechained to a compressor somehow so that when the levels started to go up, it would start applying the equalization (instead of compression) to tame down that particular range a little bit automatically, then it would be really sweet.
