I-Tunes
Wal-mart
I believe Amazon.com also offers them.

What type of music are you looking for??

Welcome!!!

Napster first, Amazon second. I've run into trouble and errors with iTunes. I think some here use Prome Cuts, but I have no experience with them.

I should mention that I an CD based, and use the above for music evaluation only. PC based DJs will probably have more experience and better advice.... and WELCOME!

I use iTunes, but only because that's what I started using when I went digital and it's what I know. I may shop around too and see if I can get a better selection and quicker releases of the hits.

Im hoping the possibility for Primecuts MP3 is possible in Canada soon Primecuts Canada has the rights to offer a Hard Drive that is updated weekly but individusl MP3's cant be accessed per AVLA laws to date.
I hold a Hard drive license which allows me to use any sized HD to store my music library on in either MP3, wave or lossless format.

As primarily a digital DJ there are quite a few options for legal downloads, of course the aformentioned (walmart, itunes, also target) I also find the following site to have quite a large selection

http://mp3shopcart.com/

I do however suggest signing up for a music subscription service, its really the only way to stay current with the radio stations and whats brand new before its available at the stores

Prime Cuts, Promo Only, Top Hits USA are a few too consider

Welcome to the boards

How much is Napster?
I think it has recently increased to around $15 a month, still a great bargain in my opinion for those old songs that are hard to find. The newer stuff is hit or miss. Fergie still declining on the countdown costs $.99. It is a marketing thing, they want you to buy it, then later they will provide it to members free of charge. I just wait out the storm, the song aint that good to spend money on it.

I'm not sure what you mean by inexpensive, but WalMart is the least expensive - 88 cents per download and most of the rest are only about 10 cents more - 99 cents. There may be others that I'm not aware of, so search around.

Jon - not wav or lossless.....from their website:

"You may copy music on MP3 or equivalent form of compression (not a higher form)."

sorry Steve you are correct. I dont use either anyhow I have too much music too go beyond 256 bit rate.I can only use a 500 gig drive with my HD 2500.

Jon - I can;t figure that logic either.....

II have a hard drive licence, I can buy a cd, rip the 13 songs off it...no problem....I cannot buy a "digital" album off I tunes and do the same thing...and I cannot rip my subscription disc.....

They need to understand...a song is a song whether purchased from Frank's Records or I tunes...as far as the subscription disc; we all simply want to protect our investment.....

It may take a few more years for AVLA to figure it out and than all digital music will be free...and than we won't need them anymore...
