Looking For A Good Projector

What size do you use? 60"? I need one!

I use the 100".

The thing that's great about this screen is that it doesn't have the tripod legs. So if I needed to get it up higher (in a room with high ceilings) I can set this on a banquet table & raise it.
It sets up in about 30 seconds.

Check around, you can find them for under $600. Da-lite is a top of the line manufacture.

Man I'd love one for if nothing else Gobo projection and karaoke. But, do ya really need one of those ultra expensive units?

You know Joker if there is anything that I have learned is if your going to buy then buy right the first time and no regrets. My feeling is this will not only do what I want it to do (music videos, Gobo's and slideshow projection) It will last well into the future. The screen and the lights and projector are already ordered and I'm telling our new years eve client about it today as well as raising our price (50 dollars) from last year.

Please make sure to post some photos and your experience with the new projector. Thanks!

My Epson is a "lowly" 2k lumens, and came in under 500 bucks, and it does me just fine.

If I was doing VDJ or something else requiring extended periods of projection for professionally produced material, of course more brightness and better specs would be in order, but for the occasional client-produced slideshow or video-montage, it suits me just fine, and anything else would be overkill.

If I had to do my initial purchase over again, or when I start to upgrade down the road, I would move to a rear-projection screen.

And Scott is right about venue pricing for video rentals... one venue in particular here will charge you $200 for projector and screen rental, and for that price they just throw it in a pile in the corner of the room! You provide laptop, hook it up, run it, etc.

Against that, my $99 projection add-on is a steal! Plus I have the benefit of knowing what to expect and what to do - not wondering if their stuff will end up working... Because even if you and the client know that venue-provided or client-rented equipment malfunction or idiosyncrasy isn't your responsibility or fault, such will reflect negatively upon you for all present whilst you scramble about trying to figure out why S ain't workin!

I have a used projector...I don't advertise it, but will bring it if asked. I don't charge for it as i don't have a back up source if it or the bulb were to fail...So those upselling projectors and gobo's, etc...Do you have a back up?

Hate me now.

I bought a Mitsubishi XL30 on Ebay for $300. 3,000 lumens. A little while later another came up and the person selling it was kinda "squishy" about why it wasn't working. He said the power went out and it wouldn't come back on. I bought it for $38.00. When it arrived it had all the peripherals that I didn't get with the first one.

First one.....WORKED. I bought a bulb for the second unit....it WORKED!! So, I got 2 3,000 lumen projectors for about $350.00.

I know. I'm beautiful. BUT I'M PSYCHED!

I'm now looking for a projector myself. I'm like to do slide shows, game shows, and outdoor movies at home. Hopefully in the $800 range, give or take. Any others than what's been mentioned?

DJ Screen

That screen looks like a fat lady's slip tied to trusses.
You should check out the screens that da-lite offer: They are easier to transport, setup & look more professional.

This screen is about the best bang-for-the-buck available. Unlike the Da-lite and other more expensive screens, the DJ Screen offers the flexability of front and REAR projection!! If you want to clean up the look, draping (like most hotel a/v guys use) is readily available. Most clients like the slightly "industrial" look of the screen. Also, it has multiple stretch/connect points so, you can shape it anyway you want too. One more thing...when you are done, the screen folds up into it's own bag (included) that's about 1' long X 8" wide!!

So I just bought my first projector. I took Brendan's advise and picked up an Epson EX90. Thanks Brendan. Paid $699 with free delivery. Now I need a screen. Any other suggestions besides what's been mentioned?
