LapTop To L1... Question

Radio Shack has the interconnect Scott Hanna suggested made by Monster Cable. It's 6.5' long so there should be no problem with noise but still be long enough for your purposes. It's expensive at $55.00 but you should be able to find a Radio Shack on the island. This seems to me to be the simpest solution. I checked the NLFX site but didn't see anything like it.

I'm cheap. I didn't use the $55 one from monster. That was for picture only.

I used the one from GC for about 12 bucks. Worked fine.

but I agree, simple solution.

Jokerswild stop thinking

What's with the spaming?

Look just because it's in a Wiki doesn't make it correct. Wiki's are user modifiable.... I could easily go in there and post something that tells ya if ya hold your butt just right any sound system will be just like the bose.... but doesn't make it correct now does it? (that's a rhetorical question)

I know you mean well... but look at some facts:

1. Read the manual it specfies that the 1/4" input is designed for Hi-Z (high impedence) inputs... [editorial]it is not generally recomended to use unbalanced Hi-Z cables due to the potential of interference induced noise especially in longer than 3 meter cable runs.

I know you mean well. But, I have to go with my years of electronics training on this one. XLR is the best because it is a grounded and balanced cable providing me with the most noise reduction possible in my signal chain. I follow one rule: Your sound is only as good as the weakest link. (typically that's a cable).

Now back to the OP

Chuck, I think steve has posted may be the most ideal way for you to get a mono signal to the L1.

Jokerswild stop thinking for a min and listen to the speakers use your ears:sqbiggrin::sqlaugh:

You can say what ever u want to a person /w a key board jokerswild

WTF Ever.. you win.... your wrong but that's ok.

If I were standing face to face w/ u would u still use that language with me? I dont think so. Have a nice day.:sqbiggrin: Try and keep good carma:sqlaugh:

You + are = you're not your, as in "you're wrong, but that's ok."

Karma, not carma.

YOU'RE both welcome.

Kev: I'm not saying you are wrong about the ability to use the 1/4" inputs on the L1 for the purpose that Chuck is looking to do... but, you are wrong about the quality of the sound on 1/4" vs XLR... they are the same.

The difference lies in how hard you have to push to get the same sound level from 1/4" as you can from XLR... this is due to the 3db gain when using XLR. That's a fact of how the L1's are configured you lose that the minute you try to use the line level inserts instead.

Here's how I set up the L1:

Trims = 0
Preset = 58

Remote:

All at 12 o'clock, including the master.

The reason for this is so I can control the input levels... I can always later tweek the trim if I feel I need more but this gives me the best headroom and zero chance of cliping the system with my input levels.

By making the external equipment work harder to obtain the same results, the external equipments headroom is lost.

I never have to run my slider's more than midway to unity to obtain desirable results... I can go to and beyond unity and still have great sound and no cliping from my external equipment to the L1 itself... this means I have a ton of headroom (3db extra to be exact) over 1/4".

YMMV

Paging Bryan Durio.. assistance needed in aisle 1.

@Rob - You're still running on 58? Did you ever try a side by side comparison with 00? Just curious.

I did at the sweet sixteen party the configuration was similar to my 8/8/09 gig where I had about a 15-20' spacing between the L1's and two bass bins next to each stand instead of stacked in the middle... I found the bass to be lacking and went back to preset 58.... I may try it again the next time I have my bins all together again.

But, I didn't like it. It just didn't sound right to me.
