Is There a Discount For Sunday?

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
Saturdays are a given, Fridays or Sundays are the icing on the cake. Venues offer discounts for these days, so the brides expect it, as least in my parts...

Rooms in Vegas are cheaper during the week than on weekends, right? That is by far a better comparison than coffee or gas...
 
I have a weekday price for gigs monday through Thursday which is the "low end" I will work for, a friday price which is higher than the weekday price but lower than Saturdays and a Sunday price which is higher than Friday but lower than Saturday! :sqbiggrin: I guess it really depends on if you want to work that day or not!

And I get gigs regularly on both Fridays and Sundays with many weekday bar gigs along with an occasional PP and School gig.

If you are spending $400 a gig for fuel you really need to look at a different vehicle or a job closer to home.:sqlaugh:

I stand by my pricing structure...
 
We offer discounts for non saturday nights

Why? Simple. it works. People that have events on friday or sunday are usually doing it to save money, so they are looking for a deal.

More importantly, we usually have tons of availability for a Sunday. We have had 10 weddings booked on a single Saturday and maybe 1 or 2 Sundays all month, so I always have guys willing to do them. It's extra money to them and me.

If I could book sundays as easily as saturdays, I wouldn't offer a discount.

Yes, my costs are the same and we don't make as much on a sunday gig as a Saturday gig. But we make much more on a booked, discounted Sunday gig than we make on a regular priced Sunday gig that we didn't book.


Everyone has their own opinions on whether to discount or not, but if the reason you can't discount is because your regular prices are already as low as you can go, it might suggest rethinking your pricing structure so you at least have some wiggle room if the situation calls for it.
 
In my younger days I may have discounted for a Sunday event. I've learned two important things.

1) The value of my time
2) The importance of my loved ones

Sundays are one of the few days of the week that I can spend with my friends and family. I barely see them as it is now, so I can't imagine giving up one of those days at a discounted rate. Additionally, doing a Sunday event would mean doing back to back events. Additional stress on potentially busy weekend.

The amount of time that I invest in a Sunday event is exactly the same as a Saturday events. The expenses for a Sunday event are exactly the same as a Saturday event.

Most industries would charge MORE for a Sunday event.

I agree with this. I personally don't like doing Sunday gigs. I prefer being with my family. But I have guys that jump at the chance to do them, so we discount .

That depends on what I did Friday and Saturday if I had gigs then I do not discount I actually RAISE my price to make it worth my time after all...there goes my weekend. If I don't have any gigs on Fri. or Sat. then I charge my standard rate. My discounts are only for immediate family, close friends and small events (75 guest wedding, small backyard, etc.).

With all due respect, if your family is really that precious to you, then you would block the date out. If not, then you DO have a price.

I publish my rates. All non-Saturday dates are $100 less than my Saturday rates. That's not much of a discount and my clients feel they are getting a deal. We both win. I did a Sunday wedding just last week. Just remember that Non-Sat weddings are usually because the client is budget-minded.

And, from my experience....it doesn't have to be much of a discount, if at all.

Sundays are hard to book--- folks have to go BACK TO WORK on Monday.

I used to offer the "All You Can Dance Buffet" (Sundays only) for $699. You would get 5 hours guaranteed, with a requirement of 10 couples on dance floor at all times (20 persons dancing continuously) to keep the overtime going. Once everyone sits down......the party is OVER!

In the 4 years I offered this......only one party went over the 5 hours (they were able to keep 20 persons dancing for 30 minutes).

Remember....PEOPLE NEED TO GO BACK TO WORK.

CYA: If the Sunday is on a Memorial or Labor Day weekend (where Monday is a holiday)....DO NOT OFFER THE BUFFET OPTION.
