Is it really that bad in Ohio?

And a "special" thank you for everyone who dumped on my state.

I will be more than happy to find trash on a couple of cities in your state.

Cleveland hit that list because of the unemployment rate, economy and WEATHER.[/QUO

Briar how close do you live to cleavland we are coming down next month to visit my kids and grandkids

Im not Briar, but him and myself are about 4 hours or so south of Cleveland. Hes close to Dayton, and Im in Cincinnati.

My wife had a great 2 days in Cleveland when we saw a show at The House of Blues.
Great restaurants around there. Not sure I would want to live there but look forward to going back for another show.

I think Gary, IN should've ranked higher on that list. I mean, parts of the city were used as an example on the Life After People show on the Discovery Channel. Besides, it is one of the most dangerous cities in the country.

my parents live in Western PA
and they say the only good reason to cross the border
is because there's a Cabela's in Ohio!
:sqerr:

of course, THEY live in the thriving metropolis of BEAVER, PA...
where the weather is just as bad, and the economy is worse!
(but HEY! the real estate is cheap!)
the only thing going for Beaver is the nuclear plant.

I lived in Hammond, IN for a few years, but it was in the mid 60's. Guess it's changed a bit, huh?

I lived in Columbus for a couple of years. Great city with lots to do.

Bah, you guys ain't seen chit :D:D:D:D:D try romping around Mexico City without having a clue to what's going on in this city it doesn't matter if it's 12 noon or 12 midnight you're in for some serious chit.

We will be staying in Columbus and a couple of Days in Mt. Vernon. It would be great to see you guys also but 4 hours away is a little to far lol. I will be having a drinking fest for a couple of days with my kids and daugher inlaws.:sqwink:

Dave, we are only an hour from Columbus and over there pretty often.

Check you PM's :)

I was 13 or 14 at the time... the newspaper was having a get together and pep talk for the paper carriers and Gordon Jump was the keynote speaker..... they called out a route number for a giveaway and I was the luck SOB to get up on stage and shake his had... it was the coolest thing since sliced bread to a 13 year old.... plus I got a VCR as a prize.

I live in a suburb of Cleveland. I've been in the area my whole life. I've traveled a lot and love it here in the Cleveland area. Fine, affordable housing. Great neighborhoods. Commuting around here is much better than in other cities. Plenty of things to do. World Class hospitals. One of the world's biggest lakes right here. Many great colleges within 45 minutes of Cleveland.

Are there negative things? Sure. Name me an area that has no challenges. Cleveland has inner city problems common with most cities, but that certainly does not represent the whole Northeast Ohio area. Cleveland has had challenges with jobs, but there are still plenty of world class corporations with headquarters or offices in the area.

Most months out the year are extremely pleasant weather wise, with tons of boating and other recreational activities, yet some people like to focus on the few months of cold weather we have here. When it gets cold, we go skiing.

Some like to focus on how bad things are. Yet many people that come to live in the Cleveland area find out the hidden gem that is Northeast Ohio.

It doesn't matter where you live. The fact of the matter is in today's economy, if you are relying on some company to provide you with life long employment, you are riding a risky train. We need to be adaptable, hireable, able to market our skills, and show employers and clients how we can benefit them. If you can do that, there are jobs in the Cleveland area and elsewhere. If you can't do that, you need to find out how to do that.

The most negative things I hear about Cleveland is from people that have never even been here, let alone lived here. Mostly, they have read something about it, or saw David Letterman making a joke about it. The only "mistake" on the lake is the mistake people make about believing everything they read and not coming and experiencing the great lake themselves. I've talked with many people that have visited and were shocked at how different the reality was than their perception.

Don't feel sorry for us. We are just fine. Unless you believe everything you read in the papers. We love our affordable housing, love having 3 pro sports teams, love having the lake right here, and love not having unbearable traffic jams into downtown and being able to park our cars affordably once we get downtown...aka thing that are common with many major cities.

I live in Cleveland, and really don't want to live anywhere else. Neighbors on either side of me both came to Cleveland from elsewhere to take jobs. Neither are from here. They heard negative things about it before they got here, but both have fallen in love with the area. One has been here 15 years, and the other 5 years. They say they would never go back.

I've seen the grass elsewhere. It's actually not greener everywhere else.:)
