I wonder why Apple doesn't make their own DJ software.

I know about all the software others make for Apple,, but I think Apple would have a HUGE hit if it made a kickbutt piece of software that integrated with iTunes, and charged a professional price for it.

Currently I like the software called DJay.

Maybe it would be a waste of there time?? There's so many DJ programs out there already...Maybe they don't see it as being lucrative??

I think the problem is if they made it and it sucked, they wouldn't hear the end of it.

Plus the DJ market is sorta over flooded with new software. There are so many companies making this program or that it would be hard to return an investment on it. Also its such a niche market as well, 1) you need a Mac, which quite a bit of people have but most don't 2) They would need to have R&D for the program, hire people to write it, support it etc, 3) How many people DJ? Sure there are a bunch, but I think Apple is looking for the over all market share any more. Not just trying to cater to that small group of people.

DJ software is a tiny, niche market, as Atomic mentioned.

There's not a lot of money in it, and you really have to want to do it, to be involved.

Lots of work, for little return... ;)

I get that, but also, with all the iTunes DJ's out there, and Apple's vast resources, I bet it would be an awesome program, and would enhance Apple sales.

I only own a Mac Mini.... but I have like 10 iPods, and have iTunes on all of my computers except one. I would maybe use a mac to DJ if it had the features I want AND it had iTunes integration. ( Like DJay does. ) I'm no fan of Megaseg.

I hear ya' cluckin' Rick.

It would take a long time for Apple to catch up to what others have done already. If they released anything, their feature set would pale in comparison to what is already out there.

It would however, tie into their image quite well!

I think as far as Apple cares, DJay is as much into DJ software as Apples wants to go. It's available nationwide at all Apple Stores and Online. And Vestax makes a decent midi controller that mimics the VCI-100, which includes DJay. Perfect for the bedroom Dj or someone who wants to try their hand at mixing without a large investment.

I know Apple doesn't make the software, but I bet they have made more money off it then if they were to make their own versions of it.

yeah thats where you start doing that

remember EVERYONE is a Dj and thats why you dont get hired because they have the new apple dj software (you wanted)

no thanks

I'm using Algoriddim's DJAY software myself. Although it's not officially made by Steve Jobs and Apple, it *is* an Apple only application. It is super slick and integrates directly with iTunes.

The German developer ("you know the Germans always make good stuff" - Sham Wow Vince) is very active on Twitter, as they posted a major upgrade release earlier this week.

So far, I'm super pleased with the way it performs...esp. considering the price.

I also have the latest Megaseg version. It's good for auto play stuff but is horrib
E for importing music. Even on the new MacBook Pro with all it's power and glory. I just have it. That's about it. Sorry Jason.

I have switched entirely to DJAY. I still love VDJ bur really like the Djay app. I use it on MacBook Pro as well as iPad and iPhone. Remotely too!!
LOL, this is very amusing, we keep on making it easy for anyone to have these tools and jump into the fray, then we complain about wannabe DJs on Craigslist and the like! Way to go!.

I think Apple does have a DJ software - it's called iTunes :)

Seriously, a playlist for all intensive purposes IS a disc-jockey to the average person. The percentage of users who really want to get hands on with the tracks and mixes is very small. Most wedding and mobile DJs don't even bother! :)

If they are using a MBP to DJ with then they've made a substantial investment in the craft already and I doubt very much they will be one of those "Craigslist" DJ's of which you refer....

I disagree. A MBP is not a substantial investment. Just ask any high school kid.
Advertising costs many times more than a MBP, and prior to PDF documents I often spent more on postage in a given year.

I guess to everyone but you $2400.00 is a substantial sum of money to invest in one piece of gear.... btw who's talking about high schooler's?

$2,400 is not a lot of money and a laptop is not "DJ gear" it's a computer.

I see a lot of high school kids with Macs. If the kid is creative enough and needs the power of a MBP I don't see why the additional cost would be an issue. Compare the price of a MBP to the cost of the Adobe Creative or other Software suites.

Most DJ software can be had for $300 or less - and many are free. A MBP isn't making anyone a DJ. It's probbably an under-use of the MBP. Come to think of it - that's probably why Apple doesn't make a DJ software! :)

FYI, I think the term you meant to use is "for all intents and purposes". Unless you believe that a playlist is an intense purpose:)

Wow you must live in Beverly Hills... I have yet to see any school kids walking around with Macbooks around here... Face it a MacBook is a major investment, period. When used in conjunction with working as a DJ it IS gear, period.

You can twist it any way you like but bottom line at Apple's MBP pricing they are not the normal teenage computer.

MacBook Pros start at $1199. It's only the retina display model that starts over $2200.
