I wonder why Apple doesn't make their own DJ software.

I disagree. A MBP is not a substantial investment. Just ask any high school kid.
Advertising costs many times more than a MBP, and prior to PDF documents I often spent more on postage in a given year.
I second that emotion! :sqwink:

For a high school student, it's certainly near the upper level. For a business that expects 4 years of payback, that's $25 a month. A typical i5 laptop will run you $800, saving you $8 a month. It all depends on how you look at it.

Agree'd in the long run that's true but to the immediate present... all my wallet sees is a draining $1199 to $2400.... that's a lot of cash to layout on the spot... and no normal high schooler can do that... not without rich mommies help anyway.... McDonalds just doesn't pay well enough.

Plenty of very good Toshiba, Dell, Acer, HP laptops available that are more than good enough to DJ with or use for the average person for $500-$600. windows 7-now that it's ready to be replaced-works very well and it's very stable. I can't see spending $1,200-$2,400 for a laptop because it's from Apple. But hey, I spent $750 for a laptop just because it has an enormous screen, who wants that? Definitely a niche product.

Apple became what they were fighting against when they were the underdog. Their products are good, but way, way overpriced. Some folks think they're worth it, great, but not to me. The Ipad for $650? WOW! I'd rather buy a decent Toshiba laptop with a 17" screen for $450, but I'm not cool like the Ipad people. I may buy a tablet some day, but for $100 or $200, not $650. It's a gadget and it's nice, but not a necessity like a laptop to me. It's certainly a great piece of design and engineering and based on it's popularity, a whole lot of people think it's DA BOMB.

You are mixing up cost with value when you think that way.

You're not getting my point... Kids do not think in terms of ROI all they see is a cool factor but even cool factor costs money... And for most high schoolers a MBP is out of reach.

A new (non-refurbed) mid-range Windows laptop goes for $600-$800. Given that a computer is near essential equipment in college, and in some cases high school as well, it's not out of the question that a kid picks up the additional $500 difference to get what they crave after Mom and Dad pay for the "basic". It's what I did for my kid's cellphones .. you get the freebie .. you pay for anything else. Daughter took the freebie, son paid for the iPhone 4.
