I was told this will be the last year for the Lincoln Park Festival.

Ok let’s straighten a few things out this house Music festival is not run by Mix. Now the people who go to these types of festivals, don’t go to clubs and most are in the late ’40s to 60’s age ranges and are black. Most house music events are given by groups & Organizations and held at different venues which could include catering or clubs with some events happening in the daytime. This goes back as far as the 80’s & 90’s as my DJs including myself worked events. Some of my DJs even held their own events. Presently there are two House music outdoor events which happen somewhat regular on Long Island at parks, mainly as family-friendly events. Is it a large market no, are they hoping to make a ton of money, no, are they marketing to the masses, no. If you actually know the history of House & Garage Music you would know what demographic the music appeals to, who is still listens to it in the US and where they would be going to hear House & Garage Music. This year there is also multi-day House, RB & Club event in the Caribbean sponsored by one of the local organizations. Now, internationally it’s somewhat different and more popular as a sub-genre of music where some artists & DJs do still some club spots. As a point of info, Timmy Regisford internationally known DJ dating all way back to the 1980s. We were both doing mix shows for WBLS when the station was 1# in the rates before he became a producer & an artist.
What I don’t get is why you would think Mix and these other DJ should play the music they aren’t interested in or Qualified to play, to play in a place their audience doesn’t go to. Throughout the summer each night they have different ethnic groups playing all different types of music each night. Maybe I should go there and tell them, hey there is no money in this Music, you can’t get a residency playing it, I don’t really listen to this music play something new. Kind of doesn’t sense does it.

What's newer stuff?? 1985 vs 1980?
Go on YouTube and type in Let It Fall. That's one song. Another one is Who Keeps Changing Your Mind. Just a couple. There's many more.

The load in for the job on September 14th if you have to go upstairs is tough. It's 2 flights of stairs. The room is big. So you have to use at least 1 sub. Hopefully the elevator will be working. If not then we have to do what we have to do. Again my friend last night nailed it. Them wanting me back is a good thing and that's what you want.

I didn't discuss the location yet because there's no contract given to them to get the details.

I discuss the location and details BEFORE any contracts are sent. Discussions are your friend

Mix has stated often his desire to be a successful mobile DJ .. the LOCAL audience wanting to hear house music AND willing to pay for it, is limited. The potential audiences for other, newer music is substantially larger. We're not necessarily saying he should deviate from what he likes and knows .. just not to come on and complain about the lack of opportunities if he doesn't.

Most of us charge significantly more if the is a difficult load in, I’m surprised you don’t

Not stuck on older house music. The issue is that crowd the time I did for them, they were stuck on older house music. What I call older house music is Follow Me, He Loves Me, God Helps Those and stuff like that. My preference is newer stuff. Again it's not about me. It's about what the crowd wants.

I didn't discuss the location yet because there's no contract given to them to get the details. I'm sure it will be in the location as before.

Weren't you the same guy that was all about turning down an event a few weeks ago because your partner didn't get all the details from time to bra size?

No I didn't turn anything down. Not sure what you're talking about. There's the issue of him not being proactive after someone contacts him about doing an event.

I think I know the event you're talking about. Is it the Branch Brook Park event the last Saturday in August? If so I didn't say I wouldn't do the event. I told my partner recently if he doesn't get all the details we need to do the event I'm not coming. He told me he had this persons number. So if he doesn't contact this person to find out what we need to bring to make this event a success and just assumes things, I won't be there. I will be in Donaldson Park that day. That's in Highland Park, NJ. I told him this and I'm serious.

@MIXMASTERMACHOM Can you make us a mix of house music you really like to play?

I'm not sure what software you're using, but I thought it was VDJ. I believe you can record right in the software as you're playing. And I can help you upload it to MixCloud for free.

I think this group would have a better sense of your skills if you actually showed us what you like to spin versus just telling us about it.

What are you talking about? I started off this thread with talking about a big festival that has been going for the last 13 years and this being the 14th and final year of this festival. Sad for me because it helped me with my spirit and had me wanting to keep Djing. I tried to go to the Bang out on Sunday but by the time I got there I couldn't find a place to park. So I went home.

Yes they have other festivals but that's the one I got used to and knew the exact day it was to be going on. For me it's an institution. Just like the Private Place Lounge was to me that is being torn down. I had a great time playing there and great memories.

For those of you participating in the Mixmaster Drinking Game... he said "Private Place Lounge" again... that's a shot of your choice and 3 sips of beer.

I mentioned that place because even though it wasn't the most glamorous place around, it was a nice place to go to and for the most part a friendly place to go to. That place on the weekends used to stay packed. People partied hard in that place, young and old. Just sad to see it being torn down.

Sounds like quite a place!
