I was told this will be the last year for the Lincoln Park Festival.

and honestly...whether it was a birthday party or an event you promoted...it was a failure by all accounts... unless seeing how many missmatched speakers you could fit on an empty handball court was the ultimate goal...in that instance... you are the winner!

Again my birthday was Sunday not Saturday. What part you don't understand?
Does it matter that your actual birthdate was Sunday but you celebrated your birthday on Saturday?? It was STILL your birthday party bash !!

YOU called it your birthday/coming back party .. you, not us ..

He was pretty darn good ...

He's not pretty good. He's awesome!!!!!!!!! Some obviously never heard of him on here and others have. Same with some other DJs who are hot in their area, while others have never heard of that DJ. Don't know what he got paid but whatever it was he was more than worth it.!!!!!!!!! He is in the Hall Of Fame for DJs. He's along the lines of Tony Humphreys, Larry Levan and some others.

As far as to what happened in the park and how it turned out. It was my first time being back after my surgery. So I was just happy being back doing what I love to do.

i think he is basing his theory on the examples and information you have provided us here....ie: your birthday "party" on the handball court... in which the turnout was very very sparce.

the assumption being...if a dj cannot drum up atleast a few family members to show up to their own birthday party/concert.... then how would that same dj drum up any interest in their slot at a festival.

A chance to see Mix without having to pay money to attend someone’s bday party is a rare opportunity

Let me move on to something else. Finally got a call back about doing an event on 9-14-19 in Paterson, NJ in the same location. The event is 7pm-1am. I talked with the guy about the price. He told me to just put it in the contract. The thing is I couldn't do it for the same price as the first time. I have to meet with the committee on Saturday in Paterson at 3:30pm. So I will present the contract with the new price and let them decide.

The beautiful part in this is I found out the elevator is working now. So we can use the elevator instead of having to go up 2 flights of stairs. That's great news. My friend had to put me in the right frame of mine. The music I got request for was boring to me. He said just look at it this way. They want me back which is what you want. He's right. It's about in certain cases getting repeat business or people referring you to possibly do an event for another client. So my job is to do my job, get paid and get out. Play the music they want with a smile. When they request one of those boring songs just tell them sure I will play it and if I have it just play it. All the events can't be about what I love. Some crowds are stuck on only the music they have heard on the radio too many times or just used to only the songs they have heard over and over again and again.

My aim this time is to look at impressing the committee and the crowd so they will want me back again after this event. At least the last event I did that crowd wasn't stuck on yesterday completely. They were more open to something more then the same old songs for quite a bit of the music. So at least I can hang my hat on that and just get through this one.

Simply put what it comes down to is I played stuff that normally for such events for the fellowship that would have had the crowd going crazy. This crowd didn't have a clue. So I will see how it goes and play it by ear. Just read the crowd and see what they are feeling. What I do is play a few test songs to see if it a progressive crowd or the crowd that's stuck in stuff 15-20 years ago or even much longer. An oldies but goodies event would be something different. Usually they will want a good mixture of oldies and some newer stuff. Just got to watch out how new it is.

Good luck and I hope you get the gig Mix.

Who cares if the requested music was boring to you. The music is the choice of the client or the crowd your playing for. As long as your getting paid, what does the music selection matter? I have done gigs in the past where I disliked the music, however I played it, they loved it, and they paid me. No problem. I think that part of the problem with you not getting and having successful gigs is that you are somewhat of a 1 trick pony.

I hear you and I got to say you're right. Now what I will say is the crowd I did the last event for was different from the crowd at this other event. If I played that same kind of music for this last crowd, they would have been pissed off. And the same thing goes for this other crowd. I just had home in on what they wanted and do the job. I said it and I thank my friend for explaining things the way he did. Just smile and keep it moving. Get paid and hope they like what you did enough that they will want you back. Same thing with the last event I did. Hope they liked the job I did well enough to have me come back to do another event for them if I'm available.

Are you going to show them a video, photos, of any of your past work? Anything to make them say, wow I got to have this. Even copys of thank you email saying you did a great job helps when meeting with a Committee

No because I have worked for them before and some there know me from previous work I've done with other committees.

So, you spent three paragraphs talking about a gig that you don't even have yet?
