 ok so here's my rant....
Have had this Saturday's wedding booked since September. (Met with the bride, groom & moms beforehand & they all were incredibly nice.) 6 hours in the Signature Room at the John Hancock Building - 95th floor - 6p.m. to Midnight. Some logistic problems but no biggie. Keep in mind that I send an email once a month just to touch base & be of service. She'd d-r-a-g-g-e-d her feet completing anything - I finally received the planning forms & timeline. I see that she has me providing music for her ceremony - which is at 5:30p.m. - not the time I am contracted to start. And it is obvious she has spent this past week selecting music for the ceremony & announcements, but not for dancing time.
Each couple has a different song, which usually doesn't bother me but WHEN will I ever use Rammstein & Mest again???
To REALLY top it off, she has made no arrangements for me to park in the building!
Lesson learned - make sure that I CONTRACT parking when event is in downtown Chicago & areally short leash on when I need their info returned.
Thank GOD I am meeting her again Thursday!

Hang in there Cyndi. Been there, done that. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with.

Shouldn't a Site Visit have taken care of that issue beforehand?

Canute, what in there sounded like a site visit problem?

I never said it was a site visit problem. If she did do one maybe it could have been addressed by her and confirmed. If she did not then she had to rely on someone whose brains would be hot with other priorities. She has not answered whether or not she did nor if it was there when she met beforehand with her client. Nevertheless she has learned something from this experience.

Agree - she learned from this. Still not sure what a site visit would have taken care of though, other than maybe the parking issue - which she did not specify if it was or was not addressed - she said there were no arrangements made for her to park.

Yes, I was referring to the Parking Issue. She is the only one who can clarify this for us.;)

Site visit wouldn't have solved my problem. I ASSUMED she would handle the parking for me.
Been to the Signature Room before, I live 10 minutes from downtown Chicago, I know what to expect.

I had a clause in my contract that specified that the client was responsible for all parking fees. I think I even bolded and underlined it to make it more visible.
To me that is Nickel and Diming the Client. If the cost is minimal I will absorb it. If it is like Valet Parking (The safest) I will include it in my final cost.

I used to get my van Valet service it was sometimes cheaper than the regular parking rates and many times the Valet station would close and the desk agent would just pull the vehicle for me no charge. I tipped them tho. I would ask about free parking but wont squabble over parking since I charge properly to cover that or stairs for most any event.

That's being professional ... ;)

If it is in the contract it is not nickle and diming. It is put before the client and if they accept it then it is part of your agreement with them.

Honestly, for most of the gigs I did it was not an issue because parking was free. It only came into play for some of the hotels in the city and in every case the client already had it covered before the contract was even signed. Most of the time the venue informed the client of the parking for the entertainment and the client had the venue include a pass.

GEEZ STEVE.....HAVEN'T YOU LEARNED NOT TO USE THAT WORD????
You know yer askin' for it!!!
Just making sure people are paying attention ... carry on ..;)
