Dude,

Geez, I'm a two finger typist, and nobody here's gonna out wind ya. When I start reading things like "please see post 260 I'm thinkin' if you haven't made your point by now ( or a week ago for that matter) than maybe it's time to call some leads and stop worrying so much about sharing accounting methods. I make a nice net return for my work, and since my net percentage seems to be higher than what your charts say yours are, I'm not getting anything useful here- and I make no claims to brilliance. Will you accept a win by default? :sqwink:

Joe,

Can you define "win" or what the he** can be defined as a win, when learning or sharing one's information is the intent?

When some one is sharing information on a chat board, what does win and lose have to do with a thread?

I didn't realize I needed a score card!

Apologies Dan, I was feeling under the weather and grumpy yesterday.

My point wasn't to agree or disagree with dude, and the "win" comment was an apparently UN-humorous attempt on an ease back. It wasn't an attempt to stop info from being shared, but a reminder after a LOT of posts that there is more than one proper way to handle cost accounting. Mine is different than both Pro AND Dude's, but I feel no need to push it on to some one else. After over 300 posts, what points were to be made probably were....at least that's how my sickly self was feeling yesterday.

Either way, I apologize for my grumpitudinous behavior. I should have just kept my mouth shut and moved to the next thread, as I normally do in these cases. No offense meant to you or anyone else.

And now, back to the regularly scheduled thread.

Joe,

All cool here.:sqwink:

Just keep in mind, (and this is for all), that not all people reading and learning from a particular thread may not be active and posting in the thread.

That is one of the big, and overlooked problems with chat boards. They end up being a two or three person discussion turns sour. Then the hundreds of other potential people reading and possibly learning are often the one's that loose.

Joe, to all...

I've not set out to win anything...

The true winner is the person that can mire through the conflicting pluralism and opinions to define a position and perspective that allows them the opportunity to legally, effectively, ethically and profitably operate their business to earn a living from it...not fund it with outside revenue.

However, I will defend what I know to be true. That complicates the overall matter. Side conversations that are not in some way connected to the matter simply exacerbate the matter.

Joe, to address your observations more concisely: This is an illustration...not an agenda being pushed. There are several viable methods to quantify product/service price. Since I initiated this thread. It is my responsibility to see it to the end. That does not infer that every answer posed is valid and subject matter for this thread. There are elements that create leveraged questions of dissent in order to nullify an idea.

For instance, if someone made the statement on a chat board: If God is all powerful...could he create a rock so large that he could not lift it?

The answers would vary and in the end someone would post an argument..."what does it matter...can you prove God exists" which would most likely initiate a heated debate that results in thread closure.

The 10 company comparisons are almost done. For those that get something from it immediately....great! Perhaps someone will look back a month from now after they file their taxes and gain a different perspective.

I am chuckling immensely at the pre-mature angst at criteria information and the final comparison has yet to be made...

Oh well...

You need to...

...publish a book. Oh, wait, you already have on the board...

Good information, but I'm guessing that less than ten folks are even looking at it. I looked at the first two, then let the rest slide... the analysis is way over my head. But then, I'm not a marketing type of person... but kudos for the nice work, just the same.

Jon,

At $0.55 cents on every dollar...does that put $.045 cents per dollar in your pocket as wages?

All of these are legitimate business expenses ~ they are tax deductible.

When expenses are taken into account, how the heck can anyone justify doing a four hour DJ show for $100.00?

To be sure, there are many out there who do. And they're losing money... giving it away, often because they don't understand how much it actually costs them to do a show.

What if your goals include something more than just paying taxes?

When expenses are taken into account, how the heck can anyone justify doing a four hour DJ show for $100.00?

If the expenses have been met, and the taxes paid - what then does that $100 show represent?

To be sure, there are many out there who do. ($100 shows) And they're losing money... giving it away, often because they don't understand how much it actually costs them to do a show.

What is your definition of giving it away? Is there something unethical about a freebie or is it just inconvenient for other DJs?

Aren't you really expressing a dissatisfaction with the lack of defacto sales as a result of the very nature of DJing?

I'll simplify all of this... Charge whatever it takes to get the job and keep you satisfied. Nothing else matters.
