A good DJ friend of mine called this evening. He's experiencing what several are in our region. Contracts that are being cancelled for cheaper services... Not better...just cheaper. These people are eating the cost of the deposit and still saving $$ on the end entertainment price. We have hit a critical mass in our market. More DJs than potential events. End result, price war.
I saw this coming... I warned Djs... many scoffed. It's like throwing a piece of meat into a den of hungry wild dogs...all nashing their teeth for just a little taste of the action.
Oh well, I pulled 5 rigs off the road over the past 2 years in anticipation of this growing problem to maintain profitability. The greedy & inexperienced will burn out in time. They'll definitely muck up the market, price wise...perception wise...
As a rule I turn a pretty high percentage of price shoppers around
And the ones I dont never were my customers to begin with
Heres a completly ridiclous story
I spoke on the phone to a very nice young lady yesterday looking for a price for November of this year. I spent about a half hour on the phone with her knowing full well that no matter what I said I wasnt going to change her mnd. She wanted a 4 hour reception, dinner music (2 hours) no upsells of lights extended sound etc.
She had recieved a quote of $125.00....No contract (thats common in my market I think im the only one using an agreement). She said if I could match it she would much rather have me. I told her I couldnt she thanked me and hung up
1 hour later I recieved a phone call from the same young lady wanting to book her staff christmas party. The first thing I mentioned was price due to our last conversation. She booked at full rate signed the contract and gave me the retainer that day because she wanted to make sure she got me.
And she is still going with the $125 guy for her wedding
I finished yesterday confused Im not sure if she got what I said about value over price or not
I guess the moral of the story is that Price Vs Value only matters when you are footing the bill :sqconfused:
