How high does the price of fuel have to get for you to change your driving habits?

I actually thought the same, but once i ran the numbers it worked out the other way. With the amount of fuel i was using...purchasing the tesla and driving that most of the time costs less than driving my truck everywhere all day. Even with insurance in there. I worked the numbers on a 2 year period, including payment, insurance, tax rebate savings, depreciation, maintenance, etc. Heck, now that cars APPRECIATE rather than depreciate my numbers will look even better. If it didnt save me money on a monthly basis, i wouldn't have bought it. You do have to drive A LOT to make it worthwhile though.

I still stand by what I said. They aren't giving the Teslar away. Of course I don't know you or what your expenses are. If it works for you great!

The lightning is sick! Ordering one for an employee as soon as we are able to order again.

Yea, having the EV as a second car wont save you money unless you have free charging, and drive *A LOT*. If you do though, throw it all into the spreadsheet and see. Don't forget the tax writeoff federal and your state. I work on the assumption i will keep a car for 2 years before trading it. These days, if prices keep doing what they are doing, you will get as much for it as you paid, which would make sence for everyone. But we cant assume that will happen.

I've bought only a handful of new cars and have always held onto my vehicles until they were breaking down. That truck looks to be a $70k vehicle. Aren't you taking a huge depreciation hit?

These days vehicles you buy dont depreciate, they APPRECIATE! A good friend loved cars more than me even, he would always have at least 4 "new" vehicles. When covid hit he was bored and bought 2 more. The guy literally spends all his $$$ on cars.

Anyways, he sold a few about 6 months ago. Made A TON of money. Its insane how new vehicles go up instead of down these days!

That's a fairly temporary phenomenon. Once the chip shortage flows through, it will be much easier for manufacturers to fill the lots with cars again.

Yeah, it’s just temporary. Why anyone would paid more for a used car than a new one. Or 5k to 10k over MSRP for a new. I don’t know. I laughed at the salesman, then went to another dealer and ordered for MSRP. Yes, I have to wait a few months, but that what I had to do when I purchased my last van back in 2016. Once all these new cars due the hit the market start arriving you’ll see more reasonable pricing.
Reminds long ago when people brought houses and Condo at the peak of the market then prices dropped as well the market value of the houses. Its ok if you dont have to sell but if you do have to sell to move, that s big issue. My mom brought her condo for almost 80K less than the previous owner paid.

From what I'm seeing around here, the car lots are filling up quickly. I'd say this little phenomenon is over.

I've been trying to find a 2022 Bolt EUV for months.
I was at the dealer 2 months ago when they had the 6K price drop. 2 cars on the lot, multi offers on each, basically they wanted the full price without the 6k price or more. They had a EUV premier on the lot but you’re talking about 40K+ with the Bidding. Hum, no thanks & it doesn’t charge fast enough for trips. Plus my daughter & wife Said it was small too.

I work across from a The VW distribution parking lot for all of the Volkswagen's that get taken off of the ships at the port of Baltimore. Earlier this year, it seemed that about half or more of the lot was continuously empty. Sometimes they have Audi vehicles staged there as well. I also noticed, that they were slow in having trucks come to pick up vehicles as I noticed some vehicles not move for at leat 4 to 6 weeks before they were picked up.

Anyway, this morning they were unloading a boat, and were driving lots of cars, and parking them near my work. I noticed that probably about 75% to 80% of their entire lot is currently full of brand new vehicles. The lot is HUGE. I would estimate at least 2,500 cars can be parked there. They need to have a lot of trucks come to pick all these vehicles up!

I am going to wager that dealer lots should be for the most part back to normal in the next 60 days. The price gouging is coming to an end fast! I assume that back ordered high end sports cars are probably going to be the last hold out on the stupid dealer mark ups above MSRP, but typical cars that people buy should be back to normal pricing by year's end, and probably by Thanksgiving. ...Unless China attacks Taiwan blocking chips from getting out, or another shut down occurs killing the supply chain again.

The sports car 'above msrp' saga already ended - and Ford & Chevy (and I imagine others) have fined and threatened dealers over this. If you find dealers still doing this, report them - they'll get fixed quick.
